Billion Sky Modem

Featured Replies

This modem came free when I signed up. Seem to be getting a lot of drop outs. Also don't seem to be able to forward ports on it.

Any experiences with this modem?

Yes. Same as yours. The modem is crap. Finally bought wireless modem/router and still have stutters enough to ruin downloads. May be due to general asian cabling from U.S.

Where are you guys located? I just got this hooked up in Chiang Mai with the same modem. I don't know what it means but sometimes, I will put in a URL and it forwards me to the True homepage. It does it with different websites at random times.

How much did the new modem improve your connection?

Bkk. Same here with the redirects, but not often enough to bother me.

"redirects", yes thats the word! Thats what it has been doing a few times a day since I got it. Does that indicate a crappy modem, or crappy ISP?

Also, I have a newer problem. First of all, when the connection is working, the "ADSL" light is on solid. When it goes down, the "ADSL" light flashes. If I just wait for it to come back on it may take a loooong time. But if I turn the modem off for ten seconds, then back on, it usually comes back online with a minute, but often it only stay online for only about 1 minute, basically long enough for me to surf to the next page then work offline again. Does that indicate a bad modem or ISP? Please let me know if you need more specific info. I can log into the modem to get more stats if needed. This problem seems to happen every time it rains, but other times also.

If it is a bad modem, does it sound defective or just generally crappy? Should I be asking to have it replaced (obviously I will get the same model).

Thanks for any info!

The redirects seem to be a function of the modem, though it's not indicating anything faulty. Now my modem appears to be LOCKED so I can't get in to change/view the modem settings.

The problem you describe sounds like a connection issue more then anything else, but don't take that as authoritative.

Put it this way, it you plan to use BT you will need a new modem anyway as there appears no way I can forward ports on this piece of crap.

I only just got my connection so I'll continue to monitor it to see how it changes.

BTW; a tech came out to sort out me going offline. He replaced the modem now its fine that way. I still get the annoying re-direct though. As far as torrents, it works fine. I use UTorrent now and it finds ports open on its own. Works great. I used Azureus before and you had to forward the ports yourself but not with UTorrent.

Hi guys,

If I wanted to sell one of these (as I have a router already), How much should I be asking, its not even been out the box! Just got it today from them (even though i asked not to get one haha).

Any ideas?!

Thanks,

Dan

I just bought one from an ADSL technician who made a house call (for the purpose of fixing constant disconnects). I paid 800 Baht and he said if I wanted a receipt, I'd have to pay 1,000 baht. I think I got taken either way. But that might be the top price you'll possibly get.
