Sony E Book

Featured Replies

Hi , and good morning to all, I too am new to this forum , and was wondering if any members have any experience of the "sony PRS -505 e book reader ? I bought mine in the UK in march this year and up until yesterday it was fine , however after charging it through my lap top , I CAN`T turn it off ! It would appear that "Sony " have not sold this "book" in south east asia and after contacting them in Bangkok, they do not seem to know anything about this product, Any advice would be much appreciated

Have a look at the computer forum. :)

Yup ^^^, you'll get more targeted viewers in computers.

I'll move the thread there :)

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

I don't have one myself, but have been considering buying one of the newer models. The Sony readers are only officially available in the Japan, US, UK and a few other EU countries so getting them serviced anywhere in Asia (except Japan) is likely to be difficult/impossible. I would try the Sony shop in Siam Paragon, but they're probably your only option..

To reach a wider audience of ebook users for help/advice try the mobileread.com forums, maybe someone there can help.

FYI, the 505 and 700 models have been discontinued and newer versions (300, 600) are being released in the next month or so. If you do consider replacing it maybe it's best to wait a while unless you can pick up a secondhand 505 cheap from ebay..

I have a Sony prs 505 and I never have experienced this problem.

Could be a copyright realted problem.

I suggest you check the MobileRead forum. Very good and exhaustive, where you will find the answers to your problem

I've had a Sony 505 for 20 months now without any problems. It's one of the greatest little gadgets I've ever had.

If you're using your computer to recharge it, maybe it's a recharge problem. It's better to recharge using a Sony PSP AC adaptor. Don't forget the device has an e-ink screen which means that even if the battery is discharged, there may still be an image on the screen. Like others have suggested - go to mobileread.com for help.

For anyone else considering getting a Sony or another brand of ebook reader, mobileread.com is a great site for reviews and help. The only thing is you can't discuss pirate ebooks there.
