Since 'retiring' or becoming 'underemployed' last year and starting a new life in the rice fields of Surin, the photography bug has really bitten me this time. In March, I bought a Canon S51S, which I have found is a terrific point and shoot and I will continue to use. However, the vast majority of my pics (and my major interest) are wildlife. I need zoom. I had planned to buy a Nikon D90 or D300 this year, mostly influenced by information on this forum.

Yesterday, while unpacking a few decades of traveling life, I discovered a long forgotten Canon EOS1000F SLR together with a Canon 35-80mm 1.4 - 5.6 and a Sigma UC Zoom auto focus 70-210mm 1.4 - 5.6 made in Japan.

My question is: will these lenses fit onto a modern Canon DSLR and would there be enough quality and value in them to influence my buying decision back toward another Canon? Appreciate any input that might help.

The lenses should fit a modern Canon DSLR.

You can always go into a shop for a demo and take your lenses with you.

I still have my 28-70mm F3.5-4.5 dating from my first EOS back in 1990.

I find it a light convenient lens for flash photography at parties and the like.

The latest lenses had IS, which does help as we get older. :)

Check out the Canon EOS 400D and 450D.

Both have been superceeded but are still very capable cameras.

Another possibility is the 40D.

That is if you are put off by the prices of the latest Canon offerings.

Hi Chinavet, I am interested in selling my Canon 40d body only (or combined with a Canon EF 17/85 mm with Image Stabilizer) if you are interested in second hand, everything is in perfect conditions.

Thanks Astral. A couple of 'free' lenses is not a bad start. I hear you on the IS and age :)

Aeon, I have sent you a PM.

Anyone know ballpark cost of shutter mechanism replacement for these DSLR's?

Thanks.
