Documents That Duplicare Themselves

Featured Replies

I've had the same desktop PC in Thailand for the past four years and until very recently I was running MSOffice, all licensed software - in the past few months I have finally abandoned MSOffice and now use OpenOffice 3.1, far better. The problem I experience is this:

When I try to cut and paste or move documents from one place to another they replicate and create copies of themselves in the original directory and appear with the original document name (copy x), the number of times they will recreate themselves seems infinite - it is usually possible to delete the unwanted copies but it's a frustrating process.

I have formated my hard drive several times over the years and reloaded the OS but thie problem still exists - there has also been no change in this problem after switching from MSOffice to OpenOffice.

Any ideas?

Can you install that office 3.1 (the original version you used on your computer) on another machine?

Or uninstall your current version and install an older Office .xx version?

You say you've formatted and reinstalled - did you run a deep AV scan (ie. Avira) ?

The issue could be caused by a Macro virus!

Boot XP? into safe mode and check whether files are duplicated or not.

I have done most of these things but I've not booted in safe mode and checked, but I think I will. BTW, I always use anti-virus (F-Secure) and firewall software. Good tip, thanks.

My bad... Wrong response...

now I start to suspect office 3.1 as the culprit! It would be intersting to run that specific built 3.1 on another computer.

I recommend to contact the open source for that issue. I can't do more even I want it...

Thanks anyway - I have 3.1 installed on my laptop without problem so I suspect a processor virus.
