My wife just got in Canada on a Temporary Resident Permit. The custom officer stamped her passport with today's date but there are no "exit date" on the stamp. How long is she allowed to stay? When she applied she said she would stay in Canada for 60 days, thinking that a long stay here would be seen as a higher risk and she would be declined.

I'd like her to stay in Canada for around 5 months if that's possible, so we could return together to Thailand. How long can she stay in Canada for?

Date of Issue: August 12, 2009

Expiry Date: February 8, 2010

Stamp says: "AUG 23 2009"

I thought that the expiry date was the date at which the Visa expires - meaning that she must enter Canada before the Visa is expired.

I just called Immigration Canada and they've told me that she could stay for 6 months (180 days) starting on the date she entered Canada (the date stamped in her passport).

So she will be able to stay until February 19, 2010.
