Retirement Visa

Featured Replies

Hi

I am a 51 year old Danish citizen. My Non immigrant O visa ran out in August and I am returning to thailand from Denmark in October.

I had planned to obtain visa at entrance into Thailand and then apply for retirement visa in Thailand. Is there a problem in obtaining a retirement Visa

when the Non imm O has run out. (I have the required funds in the bank).

You will obtain 30 day visa exempt stamp at the airport being from Denmark. Then you will have to go through two step process to convert to Non-O and then apply for extension of stay based on retirement. To make life simpler would suggest you obtain single entry Non-O visa in your own country before travelling. That will give you a 90 day permission to stay, and then do extension based on retirement during last 30 days of permission to stay. Funds will need to be in Thai bank for 2 months prior to application if using bank balance option.

It is an extension of stay based upon retirement it is not a visa.

It would be much easier if you get a single entry non immigrant O visa before you travel.

If not you will only have 8 days to do a change of visa status (2000 baht) at immigration because you must have to a minimum of 21 days remaining on your permit to stay to do the change.

If you cannnot get a non-o visa then a tourist visa would be the next best option so you would have more time to do the change of visa status.

It, visa, may also be required to get on the aircraft as it appears to be one way travel.
