ChiangMaiThai
Did anyone else see that 6 page double sided spread on the Bangkok Post on Tuesday for the SCB Beyond Platinum card? It looked quite interesting, upgrades from domestic to business on TG amongst other things. Anyway, I called and was told, "sorry no foreigners". Does anyone else find it amusing that they took out a massively expensive ad in the leading English paper newspaper and they accept applications from Thais only? And even if you see logic in that that I do not, I wonder why they don't allow high earning foreigners with work permits to apply...

I think you'll find that the BKK post is read mainly by well to do Thai's and hence the BKK post is a perfect advertising ground for them. You'll probably see the ad in Thailand tattler as well, which is another favourite hi-so mag. As for not selling to forgeiners...strange. Thought with a work permit and a good salary behind you they'd be falling all overthemselves to get you. I know AMEX are.
rixalex
Does anyone else find it amusing that they took out a massively expensive ad in the leading English paper newspaper and they accept applications from Thais only? It would be amusing if Thais didn't read the paper, but a lot do, especially high-income city workers - i'm guessing exactly the people they were targeting. phutoie2
Yes I was under the impression that the BKK Post was for Thai's and is written in the English language. I certainly see many wealthy Thai's reading it at Bangkok Golf Club (Pathum Thani).

Unlike the British that ruled over 30% of the world through their Empire and have offered to the world democracy add that to the numerous inventions in aviation etc...the Thais are a very proud nation that sing the National Anthem twice a day, have never had a victory or offered the world anything but copy DVDs......the account surely is specifically for them and not second class foreigners!!! steelepulse
I don't read the post, but I just looked at the SCB site and didn't see anything on their credit card page about this card. Was that upgrade only for domestic flights? Any other benefits of this card over their standard platinum card?
ChiangMaiThai
Looks like I stand corrected on the readership of the BKK Post. I still find it amusing that with so many well to do expats reading the paper, expats are not welcome to apply. There were various upgrade benefits. Didn't specify how many per year. TG was domestic. 5,000 Baht annual fee, but you got it right back in the form of 2 nights at Marriott Hua Hin or 6,000 baht starbucks card and other various things.... They certainly weren't in their site map when I looked. Nice hair (NOT) on the models http://www.scb.co.th/en/nws/abt_nws_090827-beyond.shtml Think I'll let the Mrs decide if she wants to be one of the "big faces".
