Isp's Blocking P2p Ports?

Featured Replies

Has any bittorrent user had problems recently regarding trackers timing out or message "a socket operation was attempted to an unreachable network" ? Until the past of couple of days I had no trouble. Now I'm getting problems. Is it coincidental or might it be connected with the alleged recent new software installed in Thailand, and the spate of warnings appearing on any web page from the Thai police about "inappropriate materiel" That's all been sorted - so it seems.

I am having the same problem which started this week. Most trackers show offline(timed out), both private and public. Only a few trackers working, such as Zamunda and bittorrent. Sometimes the Demonoid tracker will during the night but is unable to connect most of the time.

IPTorrents tracker has been unable to connect since problem started.

I am on Maxnet on Maxnet Indy 3MB but have been getting the Police Censor Page sometimes and the Internet has been slow and almost unusable with constant disconnects.

Have change DNS servers but no difference.

I'm on Maxnet too. Speeds are fine for non-P2P work. It just seems the torrents have been hit.

This was brought up before. The Pirate Bay was taken down earlier this week and the tracker was offline and is still offline for many. This likely caused other trackers to become overloaded.

You can add http://tracker.publicbt.com/announce to your list of trackers. It's up, but not as many people are using it as say the openbittorent.com tracker.

This problem is affecting private trackers as well, so the pirate bay being down wouldn't have any bearing on that.

That's disturbing. Have you tried connecting to the trackers websites? Most of the trackers operate over port 80, so unless they are doing some sort of deep packet inspection, they may just be IP blocking well know trackers. If that's the case, I hope it doesn't turn into a trend here amongst the ISP's.

no problem here all downloading with bitttorent 6.2

Maybe the question of the ISP needs to be addressed. So far, only myself and one other poster has confirmed we use Maxnet, both on 3gig connections. Is this a Maxnet problem or widespread?

PS: Forgot to say, no problem in connecting with the private tracker websites - one in particular has spent hours today trying to help on line.

I am on Maxnet Indy 3Mb and live outside Korat.

I have no problem connecting to the tracker websites and downloading the small torrent file. But using uTorrent client most trackers will not connect--"offline-timed out". It seems like Maxnet is using some types of filters or blocking software.

Is anybody on Maxnet Premier having this problem.

On azureusWiki.com they publish a list of ISP's who restrict P2P speeds. TOT, CAT and Maxnet are listed as imposing restrictions but only Maxnet is listed to limit at certain times each day.

Has anyone tried running 'tracert' to see where the problem may be?

As of 2 nights ago (26/8/09), I experienced a total P2P block. I have never experienced this before (TOT). I even used port 80 but this was still blocked.

Last night, I changed my DNS to "opendns" (made general usability faster & without 'dead links'). This allowed me to resume normal P2P activities but this morning, my P2P connection was dead (I left my computer on overnight).

To me, it appears that some ISP's are investigating packets & therefore blocking P2P transactions.

I shall investigate more today & report back.

I look forward to your findings. Yesterday (28th) I had spasmodic connections. Some trackers connected and remained connected, some timed out after a while and reconnected later, others couldn't connect at all. This morning, so far no probs, but I bet as the day goes on I'll start getting P2P connection problems.

It's not just p2p. I can't get onto google and a few forums, nor F1 website. :) This all started in the last few days. I'm on TOT.

So far today, no probs - in fact speeds are good on P2P and elsewhere. Could it be because it's Saturday and the demand is lower?

I have said this before, subscribe to rapidshare or megadownload for a few $ a month, get every movie or music you want without waiting hours for it
