we have been as far as Rayong and Chantaburi in the same day when we lived at Bangpagong! did about 250km in 1 day on a Fino 120cc, watch out for Potholes and Trucks always a concern but no not any worse then BangnaTrad Hi way to Chonburi! returned home tired and covered in Mud, be ok if we stayed overnight at small hotel but had to get back for our Dogs sake! took the Coast road no set plan but sealed roads all the way

now have new Isuzi so any drive is no problem, and moved up North near Lampang.

Im always reminded towards Trat is the wettest area in Thailand, rains more days than any where, enjoy John Mc :)

In June I drove down from Pattaya and stayed for a week on Koh Chang, found it an easy run and did not rush it. I took route 3 all the way to Chanthaburi and then it was a right turn at T junction with traffic lights, keep going until you get to 3156, turn right and follow road. Ended up at the wrong pier, but got the ferry ticket(420 bht for car and 2 passengers return) and followed a motor bike to central pier for crossing. Koh Chang was lovely would go back, it is a long drive, so plan your breaks and things are more expensive on the island, bottles of fuelnot as full as in Pattaya too.

I've driven from Pattaya to Koh Chang about 6 times in a 4x4 without any problem at all. I think the roads should be OK for a bike. It took me about 4hrs from memory in a car but on a small motorbike its going to take considerably longer and if its raining.....well I'm a biker too and I wouldn't fancy it!

Make sure you get to Koh Chang before dark as I wouldn't like to ride those very steep and winding roads in the dark on two wheels - you may end up in a ditch!

I am sure I took a short-cut but can't remember the exact route as my GF was navigating. Does anyone know a shorter route for this journey as I will be going end of this month but this time without my GF.

Many thanks

Tariq...
