I recently was on the computer while some welding was being done & the power dropped, I think causing word(which I was using at the time to act strange.

when I open word it goes behind the desktop into the void. when I minimize it goes from the left portion of the screen down to the toolbar. when I try to open any word documents that I have saved. it is doing the same. It is doing something- I just cant tell where or how to get it working again. I have my system totally backed up & can restore it to the original reformat when it worked. System restore will open a document once & revert to the void again.

What is the best option ?

I also tried Microsoft office tools & under disk diagnostic the system comes up with an exception processing message

Anyone got a clue whats up.

Thanks Barry

One possibility is that the Word Window somehow got dragged off the display area of the screen. If that is the case, you would need to restore/drag Word display to the screean area.

The newer versions of Office programs will "heal" themselves if there are problems (being dragged off the screen is not included !). You can open Task Manager while your Word program is showing in the taskbar to see if it is actually running in the Processes portion of Task Manger.

The task manager shows it is working. I restored it again & can get 1 document to open at a time as long as I don't open 2 docs it will work. I cant get a grab on where it is hiding . It only highlights all the icons.

If you right click on Word in the taskbar, a menu should come up with: RESTORE, MOVE, SIZE, MINIMIZE, MAXIMIZE, and CLOSE. You can try those.....

That can be an indicator for not properly installed removable media!

Have you done any hardware upgrade or driver upgrades recently?

The only new hardware I installed was a new Epson printer to replace the older model. Do you think when I removed the old printer it may have took out something that was associated? It did have a problem uninstalling printer to web feature & I had to re-uninstall that feature so it didn't register twice. It is really strange. I never seen a problem with the older version of office. (nothing on the right hand click restores the page- it just minimizes itself to the toolbar.

I did do an upgrade to a new dual core Asus motherboard & graphic card setup a month ago & it worked flawlessly in word till the other day.

Well, hard to determine not sitting in front of your machine but I suspect the printer...

Better wait for more user advise. I don't want to give you a wrong solution due to my remote location.

Webfact the strangest thing just happened I plugged my external portable drive in & it didn't seem to affect any difference till I tried opening 3 old documents in word & they all opened & it seems to be working alright now. I did get this serious bc notice 4 days ago BCCode : 1000008e BCP1 : C0000005 BCP2 : BF93761D BCP3 : B2DC18FC

Could that have jammed something up.

I hate this used to be an auto mechanic & things rarely fix themselves(or at least for to long)

Thanks for the replies!

Yup! As I wrote in my post before that error message is usually triggered by not properly installed removable media

Now you got a BSOD of a failure (maybe hardware)! Something ain't working. Try to plug-in your external disk into another computer. You will know immediately if it is your hardware or not.

Right now I cant do more to help you.

Thanks Web You da man. Called it right & was easy to figure out after you said it was probably a removable media issue.

I will check & make sure my hard drive is ok on another computer to make sure.

Thanks again
