Military Exercises?

Featured Replies

Anyone know what the hel_l the airforce is doing, this morning. I'm just started living pretty close to the airport and a few jets ealier seemed to be practicing maybe a bombing/strifing run at the airport.

Now they seem to be doing a VIP exercise, with 4 jets circling a helo. Anyone know whats going on?

And why arn't they doing it over the jungle somewhere instead over the middle of town?

I really hope they couldn't afford to buy live ammunition, just incase someone presses the wrong button.

Or maybe were about to be invaded by china and that was the vip's in chiang mai being extracted? ...

That's exactly what it looke like from here, along with all the choppers hovering around. They are up most days, but as you say, it looked more like strafing runs on the airport, but gone quiet now.

I have been living near the airport for a year and a half, and it is pretty normal.

Isn't that one of the selling features of buying near an airport, you get to see and hear the aeroplanes. Watch "The Castle" some time to get a proper perspective, good Aussie flick.

Maybe its a practice run to hit the alleged nuclear plant in Burma( 22 03 04.50 N 96 37 46.20 E ) like Israel did with Iraq in 81' :)

could be Iran this time around :)

I was driving to the airport yesterday, and saw this too, and commented on it with my guests in the car.

When I was driving away from dropping them off, I saw a large police presence (larger than usual) around the departures, along with a number of posh buses.

Later in the day, I was heading down the middle ring road towards Payap Uni, and I passed 5 or 6 big posh buses with a police escort paving their way, that were going the other way.

If all 3 were connected, it would suggest a VIP is in town. But I dunno......

dont think a VIP would take a bus, albeit a posh one, who knows the VIPs entourage?

major VIPs get the full noise treatment ie 6 or more police cars fore and aft, and police lining both sides of the street every 50 metres or so if its someone higher up

I enjoyed watching the bomber circling my house every few minutes. Where does the military keep most of it's equipment? i.e. Armored Tanks. Are they on the military base on CM Lamphun Rd near The Duke's? Someone told me they have an old cache of munitions on site that need decommissioned. Sounds dangerous. Glad I live so close to it in town...

This as been happening all the time that i have lived near the airport it is called training ,just like near any UK air base.

It was life as usual in CM Lakeland. My sister-in-law watched long-winged U-2 recon planes take off. Sister lived at end of Kelly AFB; I lived alongside Corpus Christi NAS when the first C-5 arrived. Normal.
