Ps3 Slim From Japan

Featured Replies

It seems the slim has a new power supply unit and although I've read that the power supply is designed for inputs ranging from 100V to 240V AC, the Japanese PS3 Slim says on its belly "100 V @ 2.5 50/60 HZ" rather than the usual 100-250V etc...

Just wondering if anyone has tried the US or Japanese version yet in Thailand, or if you know what the original PS3 ex-Japan says on the case about power input.

Just wary about frying the thing...

Thanks.

In the same shop they sell transformers "step-up/step-down",you need to know what is the power of your JP electrical device.

Do not try to fry it - it will burn.

the original japanese ps3 was never labelled 100-250 on the box, it was discovered when a japense wesite showed all parts of the ps3 and the psu was marked 100-250.

however things are diffeent for the slim, it's marked 100-240 on the box so no problem :)

Never seen this on the box (it's all Japanese ?) - do you have a pic ?

The case is marked only 100V...but on opening the case the power unit inside is marked to 100-240V so all looks well.

I assume the PS3 Slim is the the hand held games console?

I was looking for one when in Penang as noticed the high price in The Mall BKK which I think was B12,900 (they are only about £125 on Amazon.co.uk).

Why are they more expensive here?

Anyway, went to Sony shop in Penang where they wre same price as UK and asked if they could be used in other countries i.e. Thailand and he said they are regionalised in to I think he said 4 regions (the region ID may be on the box).

He implied if I bought it in Penang not all functions may work in Thailand. He did not seem very convincing so perhaps someone can clarify as I did not buy this as I hoped for as a present because of what he said.

What functions would not work in Thailand? I think it has Wi-Fi internet built in (may be wrong). Would this be an issue?

Just that I wish to buy but not at BKK prices. I could buy in Penang or Uk. Would these be fully functional in Thailand? Could I use with the copy games sold in BKK?

Thanks (from a techophobe)
