Marriage adoption visa

Have question regarding parenthood, immigration, marriage, adoption.

Gf takes care of brother’s daughter since birth as brothers wife died in child birth.

Gf is eldest in family.

Daughter is now nearly three years old and bonding is very prominent.

Gf asked me about placing daughter in her name and I said yes as we will be married within one year.

When she went to do this she was told to wait till after she was married.

I have no problem with the child have known her since birth.

What confuses me is which would be best for married visa as she will live with me in Ireland.

I’m Irish by the way.

Does she wait till we are married?

Or does she put the child in her name now.

Regarding only the potential adoption of the niece, my limited experience says do it before you get married.

Back about 8-9 years my now wife adopted her 7 year old nephew. Need to go to the Pathum Thani Provincial Social Welfare office that handles such matters. Needed to have both mother, wife's sister, and the nephew's father, then had to both sign the application papers that they agreed. I stayed outside in my car.

After a bit I was called into the interview and was asked how much money I made as my wife had no income, altho she did own the house we live in, still does. My income seemed to satisfy the gal at the Social Welfare office.

She then asked if we were married, I said no, and she said good, much more complicated if a farang is involved.

She then said we'd have to wait for 3-6 or so months as the provincial adoption committee only meets 2-3 times a year and none scheduled when we were there. About 6 months later she called with a few more Qs, answered. A week later she called, approved, come down and pick up the paperwork. Took that to the local amphur to register the adoption and have the nephew place on the now wife's blue tambien ban.

Done deal, but as I said, much easier prior to marriage it seems.

And now that we're married, he'd just be part of the immediate family if we intended to apply for U.S. immigration, which we don't.

Thanks for reply as this is oviously a very complex issue and also effects me greatly.

I have explained the situation to GF her english is now excellent after 6 years togeather.

As there is no way that i can separate mother from daughter. Daughter now calls me Pa Pa which is nice but i am also awair of my age, my ability to provide for this child in the future. Have 3 children from previous marriage that now are on there own.

I am surprised there have been so little responses to this problem from Thaivisa members as many will marry GF who have children.

would appreciate more replies to this question.

Speaking for myself, my wife does have children from her previous marriage, but as they are her natural children all we ever needed for visas (settlement for daughter, visits for son) was their birth certificates and the sole custody document. This is for the UK.

I have no idea of the adoption procedure in Thailand.

I have no idea about the Irish visa system and what the status of an adopted child would be under it.

Sorry you find the service unsatisfactory.

I suspect that the lack of replies is due to most members being equally ignorant; it is an unusual situation.

Have you thought of contacting the relevant Irish government agency?

I am bumping this up again in the hope that it will be seen by a wider audience.

As can be seen from previous posts this is a very complex issue that requires some form of answers from farangs who have been in a similar situation.

Thank you for taking the time to read this tread.
