Hi,

On a bit of an information gathering role, so excuse my second topic today !

As stated before, my Thai wife and i are considering a move to the Uk in the next few years. We have been living together in Thailand for two years. With respect to the visa application, i have a few questions.

1) My wage slips are from Thailand (teaching) - do they really want to see this ?

2) I have no property in the UK, will i need to rent a place before i get back or will a letter from my family saying we will be staying with them in the short term be ok ?

3) Would i need to secure a job before i returned or is it possible to get the visa and then get a job on my return ?

Cheers

Hi Lawnmower,

!. Yes, do show your teaching payslips.

2. A letter from your parents saying that they are content for you and your wife to stay with them for as long as necessary and that there will be one bedroom for your exclusive use will do fine.

3. You don't necessarily need a job but you need to show that you can financially support your wife in the UK without recourse to public funds. If you have insufficient resources of your own then perhaps your parents could act as guarantors. In this event they would have to write a letter to this effect and provide proof of their ability to do so; e.g. bank statements, savings details, evidence of income.

And one for use by your son, unless he's an infant in which case he can share with you.

Also proof they own the house may be required, or a letter from their landlord agreeing to the arrangement if they rent.

Also any bank statements, savings etc. As long as you can show that you can support yourselves until you find work.

I'm in a very similar situation, working in thaialdn and getting ready to move back to england.

In regards to the 'sufficient evidence' required, how little can you get away with? I'm currently trying to rush to get my wifes application in but one of the things I am waiting for is the paper work from my mother who will be acting as garantur but the problem is - I don't want to wait for it to be sent by snail mail (I've had letters that arrive MONTHS later); so I figured scanning and emailing (then printing) the relevant documents would be the best bet. My mum nearly passed out when she went to an internet cafe, 5 quid for three sheets!! She has about thirty sheets to send!

So what would you guys say is the minimum that she could send?

You would need the letter from your mother plus the evidence of her ability to support you and your wife. What you can do is to lodge the application anyway and have your mother post the stuff to you as it is likely that there will be a hiatus of c. 8 weeks between the application being made and an interview. Your wife can then submit your mother's documents when interviewed. Alternatively, most council libraries now offer free computer use. Could she try there, or does she know someone with a scanner at home?

amwap,

I recently had to send a big bunch of documents to Thailand in support of my gf's tourist visa application. I chose to Fedex them. It cost me about £50 :o , but it all arrived within a few days, safe and sound.

If you are sending documents below about 900 grams in weight, the price is lower, about £38.

Money well spent in my opinion.
