Police to be overhauled by May

BANGKOK: -- The government plans to overhaul the Royal Thai Police by May according to the newly appointed deputy Prime Minister, Pol. Gen. Chidchai Wanasatit.

The scheme has already been submitted for consideration by the Council of State. It will be announced in the Royal Gazette before being implemented in the next two months.

The police should be more service minded, accessible and speed up their operations to suppress crime, he said.

The new plan will focus on decentralising provincial offices, increasing

welfare benefits for low ranking officers and reducing administration and office procedures in order to increase field operations.

Low ranking officers’ salaries will be increased by 3,000 baht a increase a month to help boost morale.
