The government will encourage the Thai people in all provinces to come out to sing the National Anthem at 6 pm every day until 5 Dec to promote unity and patriotism. The events will be broadcast live from each province, starting with Krabi.

Exactly how many carefully orchestrated spontaneous loyalty events will there be?

Oh Goody. Another benefit of being a Feh-rang.

According to the article the national anthem will be used to bridge political divides.

Silly me, I thought, well history seemed to inform me, that nationalism was used as a big hitting weapon by divisive and power crazed politicians...

Seems like an awful lot of time is spent by the government bigwigs dreaming up ways for the locals to show unity/patriotism. :) A better suggestion would have been for the bigwigs to encourage reading a book a week or something like that.

I grabbed the below from another website...

Listen to Thais who say: "This kind of thing is all very well but it doesn't do anything for me, it doesn't make me feel any different because ultimately it doesn't change anything."

Simon says everybody freeze until the music stops.

Nationalism is a disease.

The cure is to ask the question, "WHY"!

The rich & powerful are so afraid of this word, they will do anything to keep it from being said.

Wakeup Thailand & ask "WHY" about everything...& while you're at it, stop all this nonsense about anthems etc.

Key "nasty" words to remember - morality, unity, patriotism & pride.

Have a nice day & flame on :)

You forgot to mention religion.

Ok, I just scrolled back up to make sure this wasn't a thread from several years ago. And it appears to be recent.

Ok, well life goes on as usual, nothing has changed.
