Marriage Certificate In Thailand

Featured Replies

Hi,

After trying many times to ring the Australian embassy and getting transfered to a answering machine which there message bank is full, and keep on getting transfered there, I thought I better try here.

Ok,

I got married a few years ago in Australia with a Thai national and we have recently moved to Thailand, I would like to register my marriage here.

What steps do I need to take? I don't work.

I need to go the the embassy first and bring,

Passport

Marriage certificate

Proof of my Thai Address

Wife's ID card

Anything else?

Then go to the Department of consular affairs to get the documents verified then off to and District office?

Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong section

That would be the correct procedure, providing your embassy legalises documents from Australia. (Some countries only legalise documents from their country to be legalised in their country itself, as their embassy can't check the document).

Thanks

The documents must be translated into Thai before going to MFA I believe. District Office does not work in English.

Thailand recognizes an Australian marriage. There is no real need to do anything except get a new ID card showung Mrs.

The need is for Immigration extensions of stay - believe they require documents from district office now for any foreign marriage based Thai spouse extension of stay and District Office will not deal in English. If that is not an issue then no need.
