Progress on construction of Bangkgok's new international airport

BANGKOK: -- Construction work on the control tower at Bangkok's new Suvarnabhumi Airport, the tallest in the world, is now in its final phase, with radar equipment already installed, according to the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Co. Ltd.

The company's Executive Vice President, Srisakdi Wongsongsarn, who this morning led a team of reporters round the construction site, said that work on the 11-storey tower was now 84 percent complete.

He also revealed that the system would be up and running for testing on 27 September, two days before the airport is due to open for initial test flights, and that radar equipment and other flight facilitation equipment had already been installed.

"We are using state-of-the-art equipment", he said.

"And we have a highly accurate computer system to reduce the burden on our air traffic controllers", he added.

The air traffic control tower at the Suvarnabhumi Airport will be the tallest in the world, and costs Bt731 million to construct.

Yes, that's what I like about this airport - it has the tallest obstruction to aircraft safety in the World - right in the middle of the airport. :D:o:D
