Emirates are doing return trips for around £405, only economy though.

Book a Virgin train Birmingham to London & get a London Gatwick-Bangkok flight for 350 GBP. Qatar etc.

Or take the Chiltern Railways service down to Marylebone - from there it is easy to connect to the Heathrow Express - gives you a much wider selection of flights and doesn't take any longer than connecting flights in Europe or the AG.

Haven't done BKK-Brum for >3 years now since relocated to Singapore, but from here it is a no-brainer, much easier to fly direct to LHR and "let the train take the strain" ...
