Good Gyn/ob In Bumrungrad Or Samitivej Hospital (bangkok)

Hi there,

My family and I just relocated to Bangkok a month ago, so you can imagine how new we are to the city and country. We just found out that we are expecting a baby and would like to ask if anyone of you know of a good gyn/ob in Bumrungrad or Samitivej hospital who speaks good English and believes in natural birth.

Your advice would be greatly useful to us.

Thanks, Jules

Absolutely a no brainer. Choose Bumrungrad. I suggest that you try Dr. Noppadol. UK raised and trained and a strong believer in natural birth.

Best of luck for your new arrival!

Not a no-brainer.

Depends on what you mean by natural birth. If you mean active labor, use of birth pool, waterbirth, staff dedicated to natural birth, than Samitivej is great. (Drs Sankiat, Yaowalak, or Nisarat). If you mean natural birth, but give me an epidural and I really don't care how it gets out of me.... Bumrungrad (Noppadol or Anong)

Thank you all for your input. I supposed I wasn't specified enough. My first child was delivered through an emergency C-sec, and with this second pregnancy, I really would like to try VBAC. And of course with epidural, since my threshold of pain is rather low.

These doctors that are mentioned, are they just as good a gyn as they are an ob? I seem to get contradicting information on how some are better at birthing or gynae than others, or some only perform gynae work and pass on the delivery to an Ob and vice visa.

Yes these are good at Gyn as well. If you want VBAC, then you should look at Samitivej because they have a successful VBAC record.

Hi Kannon,

Thanks so much for your input so far. Any doc you can recommend who has successful VBAC record?

These gyn/obs recommendation threads seem to come up so often I almost feel I could do it myself now. :)

If you go onto Bumrungrad's website you can search for a doctor.

Someone above mentioned Dr.Nopadol. If that's Nopadol Saropala - he has an excellent reputation. I would also add his special clincical interests include VBAC.

Samitvej also has a good reputation.

We had Dr Sankiat for both.

If you decide to meet with him don't be fooled by his dotty old uncle routine, he turns into super-doc when you are the delivery room :)

And definetly he respects your wish for a natural birth + active labour. First labour was about 6 hours in all, 3 at the hospital and he was there the entire time urging my wife on and keeping her calm and making sure it was all going to the previously discussed plan (3 am to 6am!)

Second time our little one came so quickly he only made aftet the birth (no 2 arrived with minutes to spare from arrival at the hospital with the help of the ER doctor on duty- all happened so quickly)...but we were happy to see him!

I love my ob/gyn Nopadol Saropala at Bumrungrad !!! HE IS THE BEST I went shopping around with my 1st pregnancy and found him, it was a natural all the way just like I wanted to.. with my second baby I was tempted to see Samitivej with water birth and all fancy stuff... tried Dr. Sankiat and we just did not click returned to Nopadol...

my delivery was a tough one ( 12 hours first one and I did not want to be rushed and the second one was from 9 in the evening with expected delivery to happen at 3am, so Dr. Nopadon arrived to the hospital at 2am and we waited till 10 in the morning!!!! he did not sleep the whole night with me ! ) ) and he was really patient and as caring as he could... THE best. I don't think that someone could have been better. both of my kids are lovely and I thank him for my deliveries

if I happend to be pregnant again I will come to him times and times again and for my pediatrician I have choosed Dr. Carl he is lovely kind smiling and sooooo good with kids !

My experience was similar to LazyCat - I also shopped around, primarily cos I felt I was being continually fleeced by Samitivej (e.g. trying to book me in for an expensive 4D scan at 7 weeks pregnant!) I also ended up with Dr Nopadol, and I really liked him - straightforward & frank. (The first ultrasound he did for me, he threw in a few seconds of 4D for free :))

In the end, I had to have an emergency c-section.

Have to say, the facilities are really nice at Samitivej - lovely birthing room. We also checked out Dr Sankiat, but similarly, did not really gel. However, many mothers I have talked to have had great natural births with him.

LazyCat, do you have the full name for Dr Carl please? thanks

Hi

I thank my lucky stars that brought me to Dr Noppadol. He is an amazing doctor. He delivered both my babies (eventually both were c-sections). I have just seen him today and am once again so appreciative of his honesty, clarity and ability and willingness to cut to the chase.

I wish there was GP like him in NZ where I'm living now!
