Hi.

I have known my Thai lady at least 2 years now...I know she wants me to marry her and take her back to the UK...

I would like to do this but won't commit myself to an answer until I have some idea of what it would cost me in all...and how long it would take to complete

How many times do I have to come to Thailand to complete the process.

I have stayed with her at her family home as well and have sent her small amounts of money each month so as she has not had to work..

Also is this process easy, without to many hurdles as that could put me off..

I am 62 and she is 45..

Thank you

We use a company in Bangkok they charge 8/10 thousand baht.

It takes 2 days with everything done then you must apply for settlement in the UK processing time is around 11 weeks.

If you require professional help we have an office in Thailand/UK feel free to pm me or contact me via my website.

I did it myself and the process was very easy and straight forward.

I had to go to the British Embassy, provide proof to them that I was free to marry they then gave me, or rather sold me a letter, it currently costs 3074 Baht, you then get this letter translated and then it needs to go to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who will certify it. I used the translation people to do all this and I think it cost me a tad under 2000 Baht, and it saved me a couple of trips to the MFA. It was pretty easy to do so the indicative price given by TVE, isn't too far off the mark. The whole thing, including registering a marriage in your local Amphur can take less than a week.

Just one more thing, and please don't take it the wrong way, you say the lady wants you to marry her and take her back to the UK, that is what you want isn't it?

Hey,

I just did this about two weeks ago. We went to the embassy with a Affirmation to Marry form, and payed about £60 for them to give us a letter. I used a translation company to do the rest. We returned the next day, were taken in a taxi to the Amphur and it was all done in like 2 hours. Cost us 7,000b... Which was pretty cheap I thought given all the messing around and translating that needed to be done.

Not sure if I'm allowed to plug the company we used, but PM me if you want details. I still have a card.

Although the guy who quoted us 7k went on holiday the second day and the other guy seemed a little bit miffed, saying they should be charging us 9k. He could of just been trying it on. My missus schooled him though, and he did it for the 7...

Good Luck!

Thanks for the info..

I am not so good on form filling etc...

but a rough guide is good.

One more thing..

How much you think after ceremony to get visa and clearance etc to go UK...

Marriage cost if about 50% of what you have when they leave.

Thanks for that scary reply..

But she is not the same as many ladies.

We love each other and want to be together.

I am sure some may suffer that.

But I am 100% sure of her

Thanks again

Yes I want to take her home....

But before I commit I just wanted to work out the cost of all this

After ceremony, then have to think of visa costs..

Then an extra plane ticket..

If it all adds up to too much, I may have to think about taking her at a later date.

This is why I have not told her yet if we will do..

The visa application itself is pretty straightforward, though it costs 33,930 Baht, a tad over £600, and currently takes about 12 weeks. There are further costs down the line should she apply for further leave to remain.

Though I say pretty straightforward, you have to supply a great deal of supporting evidence, there are plenty of other threads about others peoples experience.

Moving to a new country with a different social structure is not for everyone, many couples have succeeded and a few have fallen by the wayside, it's something that shouldn't be entered into lightly and you really need to talk through all the options.

Again please don't take this the wrong way but you are asking about the visa costs and processes and are considering the price of the flight tickets so I am wondering if you are really sure in your own mind.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck.

Your advice is sound

Yes I am weighing up the costs to see if I will do it sooner rather than later

I would like to be with her..we get on so well..

But then again I get on well with my pet cat...LOL

I have kept our letters and emails...and we do have pictures of us together.

I also have records of phone calls...

I wonder if cheaper for me to take her home or keep coming here to see her..

Got to think from all angles.

Thanks again

If using a visa company, be very careful.

Many visa companies in Thailand, even those run or fronted by Brits, are non qualified con artists. They make promises they have no intention of keeping and make claims they know to be false. One notorious British 'agent' in Pattaya even claims membership of official sounding organisations that in fact do not exist outside of his imagination!

These people can claim some successes, but only because most applications are straightforward and just a matter of getting the paperwork together. A simple procedure that these vermin will charge you a large fee for! And if things go wrong, you're on your own and can forget about that attractive sounding 'no visa, no fee' promise; you wont get your money back.

If you do decide to use a visa company in Thailand, or anywhere, ensure that you use one that is properly qualified and regulated in the country concerned. For the UK this means that they are on the OISC register.

If they are not on the register, don't use them!
