Andiamo
Another one you may consider which is considerably cheaper and I get my hair coloured with them (800 baht and they blend colours to get the right shade for you) is Schwing and the hairdresser is Nikki on Soi Lang Suan and the telephone number is 02 251 7727. Nikki used to work in Beverly Hills for a long time and he's popular with the American Embassy staff. Hope that helps! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hey girls, after reading through the suggestions here and calling several, I took the leap and went with Nikki. He's wonderful. I felt totally at ease with his suggestions and said "go with it". And let me tell you, after having years of bad hair cuts and colour in Asia, this is NOT something I do lightly. I'm very happy with the results and will continue to be spoilt rotten by Nikki :-) Btw - the haircut is 800 baht. Colour, highlights, etc are a different/higher price but still cheaper than a hair college I checked on. thanks SmartFish! I now feel 'safe' in Thailand. desi Having paid a fortune for highlights about three years ago at Tony & Guy and being disappointed, I had stuck to being "Safe and steady" with just a trim.... However, before my recent trip back to Wales, I was looking for a change As I was browsing through this WONDERFUL Forum (Big thanks gals for sharing tips! I noticed this thread......) And so began a new and beautiful relationship with "Schwing." I had highlights and a cut - GREAT! I can totally recommend Nikki who really knows his stuff and mixed a great blend for my highlights. So much so, that 2 of the Flight attendants on my flight back commented that I looked like Kate Winslet! (Of course I just said demurely, "Really? Naa". Inside of course, I was already rehearsing the stories about how I was "mistaken" for Kate etc..... ) So, one very chuffed & happy customer - with both the cut and the highlights. I will definitely go back there. Plus Nikki was great and a really chatty and interesting guy. Cool Cut, Cool Colour, Cool Chat and all at a Cool Price... What more does a gal need? RoyalOrchid
HiI can recommend a really excellent hairdresser, but it's pricey. It's Franck on Sukhumvit Soi 43 and the number is 02 662 7967. Franck is french and he works with Rob who is from the UK. I've cut my hair with Rob and it was the best haircut I've had here in Bangkok. Apparently they're excellent with colour too. Plus the environment is lovely. I usually go to Shwing, Nikki is pretty good, although I think he does too fine highlights (or maybe the color he uses is not very strong) and they wash away very quickly and almost dissapear (at least on my head). His prices though are very reasonable. Recently, following the recommendations on this forum, I went to Francks salon for cut and highlights and had a nasty experience: Franck (he is French) recommended that I do two kinds of highlights and a cut, but after he told me the price for highlights (4,500Baht) and 1,900 for a cut, I said I'll go for a cut only. So he told me that I can't do that because I already booked for highlights and I now must do both, otherwise he will loose money on me, because he put me instead of other customers...After trying to explain to me that "it's like if make an appointment with doctor or book seats in the restaurant etc." things became nasty, he was saying that me and my husband "don't want to understand what he is saying and we should just leave right now and not do anything at all", we of course left immediately. He looked very pissed and just turned around and walked away! Wow, I've never experienced somehting like this before! So now I'm also looking for a good (!) hairstylist... Misty
I've heard a number of stories similar to this about Franck. Never had a personal confrontation like the ones I've heard about, but had two incidences where I'd scheduled an appointment, shown up on time, to find out he wasn't coming in to the salon that day. His staff didn't call to cancel the appointment. The second time it happened I left a note for him asking him to call me, and he never did. I'd been a good steady customer up until that point, but figured I didn't need to pay him money to be treated like that, and have never gone back. Based on that and some of the temper tantrums he's thrown with some of my friends, I figure customer service is not his strong point. Some recommendations for you: Eric who works at Paris Spa at the Peninsula shopping mall (Rajadamri) and Alma Link Buildings (Chidlom) seems an extremely good and conscientious stylist Stephane who was at Sukhumvit Soi 11. Also very good. I heard he moved somewhere, maybe someone knows where? maddy
I had a haircut from Khun Nikki at Schwing once. I'm not going back there again. I asked for soft layers, and ended up with choppy, blotchy layers. Even my husband commented on how bad it looked. Worst thing is, he couldn't fix it, because he didn't see there was anything wrong with it. One of the worst haircut ever! Khun Nikki may be experienced with soft, thin farang hair. But if you have long, very thick Asian hair like mine, go somewhere else.

SiameseKat
YMMV, but my advice would be to AVOID Nikki & SCHWING if you have golden-light blonde hair... After reading over this forum I decided to book in with Nikki for an all-over colour. Nothing major - I needed to go from light brown/blonde & regrowth to light/golden blonde. After discussing the result which could be achieved and showing me the colour chart we agreed on a shade. He doesn't do all-over colour, only highlights, and I was not informed of this when I made the appointment. So I was left with his non-English-speaking Thai employee. After barely 15 minutes she got the ok from Nikki to take me to the basin and rinse me off. I thought this was strange because it is usually left on for at least 30 minutes in Australia. The result was only slightly lighter than the colour I walked in with. I was very upset. Nikki didn't seem overly concerned and told me it was the 'lightest shade' they could do with all-over colour (B.S) and that he could do highlights to lighten my hair to the colour I wanted for an extra 1,500 baht. I agreed because I felt miserable... Sat down in the highlights chair and waited. After 10 minutes I asked Nikki (who was cutting a womean's hair next to me) if he would be doing my highlights. He said 'yes', then I realised that I'd be waiting for another 30+minutes and was already late for work (I thought someone else was coming to do them!). So I got up and paid and left with ugly hair and bitter disappointment. Sp Schwing gets a big thumbs down from me: poor communication, failure to deliver what was promised and the distinct feeling I was being 'upsold' highlights so they could make more money. : ( Have heard that 'Dolly' from Toni & Guy Paragon is great with farang blondes. Pricy though.
sbk
Well, I don't know how he does with color but I had my hair cut at the Toni & Guy in Siam Discovery (first floor) by a guy named Chin, he was next one up from the lowest rank of stylist --the haircut was great, his english was quite good and he understood that just because I have curly hair that doesn't necessarily mean I need it blow dried straight. So, can't say if his coloring is good but I was quite impressed with everything else.
Goinghomesoon
For anyone in Sathorn area I have recommended Siri Sheen to a number of people, there are generally at least 2 or 3 foreigners (men and women) in there. It's next to the Somerset serviced apartments on Soi Suan Plu (Sathorn Soi 3) which is the same street as the main immigration office. Maybe good for a relaxing treatment after getting your visa extension The colouring is expensive for Thailand but a third of what I paid in Australia for my short hair. The owner has a foreigner husband, she speaks excellent English and is very friendly and open to ideas. And in a final plug, they just installed vibrating massage chairs for clients to sit in when they have pedicures, now I am totally hooked.
kaz49
I just had regrowth only done at Siri Sheen. I didnt expect to get such a perfect match up to be honest, as my hair currently has 3 different shades of blonde highlights, and my natural colour is dark brown. Plus a really nice relaxing head/neck massage when my hair was washed. I was really pleased with the outcome. The owner speaking good english helps a lot. Cost 2,200 BAHT. I will definately go back to have the highlights (foils) done with them. I agree with Goinghomesoon, I was paying more than this price in Aus 18 months ago. I have also paid a lot more at T & Guys in Bangkok. They have a promotion on presently for Acrylic nails, and Pedicure/Manicure (buy 5, get 2 Free, buy 10 get 5 free etc) Same for nail spa treatment. 101/11 Soi Suanphlu, South Sathorn. bbw
hey there, someone mentioned a beauty supply store near the big C on ratchadamri, wondering if anyone's been there (the post was a couple of years old)? am trying to find semi-permanent hair color (the kind we call level 2 or "no lift" in the US, that lasts a couple of months but only adds color, doesn't have any peroxide). 7keys
Hy to everybody, I go to the huge Beauty & Hair Salon at Sala Daeng. When you use the BTS Skywalk into the Central Silom Complex on the rights side. Ask for Khun Daeng, she is very good in cutting Farang hair and I am very picky! Good luck
Goinghomesoon
7keys that shop has been there forever and they are always busy. I used to go there around 15 years ago when I was living in the region and took regular trips to Bangkok. I always got a great short cut and colour there and they were really friendly, so I was glad to see they are still doing good business. I haven't made it back there this time because SiriSheen is closer to my home but that's another quality shop.
redfish44
I found a salon I go to when in Bangkok for colour (red) and cut - but can't remember the name. I can give directions instead: It is in the shopping mall opposite the Chateau de Bangkok, part of the to the Conrad(?) Hotel complex on Wireless Rd, where the Tops supermarket is. The salon is on the floor or 2 above the supermarket, take the back escalators by the supermarket (not the escalators near the main entrances by Hotel or Asia Books), and it is immediately in front of you as you come up the escalator. I'm a diver and am good at trashing my hair and its colour. I would totally recomend them as I colour my hair red - which is hard to get to stick. Their colours are great and last well. I get full colour and cut, and usually a treatment too if they and I have time. They don't mind taking their time at all, and give you drinks and mags and have tv etc, but if you have to go they can be quick. I have long hair that is usually totally wrecked when I get to Bangkok, and they don't care how dreadful I look - they say it is their job to make me beautiful, which somehow they manage to do (to my hair anyway). They can do manicures/pedicures while you're colour is cooking too. I can't remember the price, but is similar to what I pay in Australia or less, and the result is just as good, if not better. They have product that is a bit pricey, but when I have bought some it worked wonders. The staff are great, and they all seem to know their stuff, some of them seem to specialise in colours. Their opening hours seem a bit strange, but they have always managed to fit me in somehow if I just walk in (and I am never in BKK for more than a few days). Its one of those salons that a whole array of people from all kinds of places and ages can be seen. The mall has all the banks, post office and heaps of other stuff too - can get a lot done there if I have very little time (and energy) in BKK. alexisthetiny
Does anyone have a good stylist to recommend in Chiangmai or should I hold out until I go to Bangkok? I'm going to need a color and a cut soon. I'm a little hesitant since my Thai isn't good enough to explain just how I want my hair layered or that I don't want to go all blonde, I just want it a dark blonde-brown but, I'm beginning to get sick of trimming my own hair and I'm down to my last box of hair dye. Klyph
Ah, sorry, wish I knew more places in Chiangmai. Though, back in Bangkok, I noted that Qi by Shiseido hasn't been mentioned. They take great care of your hair, and the stylists are helpful professionals (At least at the Siam Paragon Branch). And just the other day, I saw a Canadian woman walk out with the hottest slanted bob!
desi
YMMV, but my advice would be to AVOID Nikki & SCHWING if you have golden-light blonde hair... I have golden-light blonde hair and Nikki has been highlighting and perming it ever since I found him via this forum, several years now. He does a great job. No problems. His staff are polite and attentive. Very professional. He's one of the rare hairdressers where I can sit down and say 'do whatever' as I'm that comfortable with his cuts. He's done what I want from day one. And if I do go for something different for a special occasion, he's good to go with that too. Just this week I went in to get my 'holiday hair' (sometimes known as 'party hair'). As usual, I was entertained with local snibbets and more, and walked out with a great colour and cut.
