I have lost the bar at the bottom of the page that shows the progress of a page load.

Looking at the View at the top of the page

I seem to have Bookmarks/Google/Navigation turned on,

plus Status, so what is missing?

"Status Bar" should be in View [Tab], click View+Status Bar

Strangely it has come back this morning when I turned the machine on again.

Astral. Are you using firefox 3.5? Just curious as I've had a few similar things happen which seem to correct themselves.
