Ex-Pats targeted on Sky Train
Not that I expect anyone to care... I was able to top up my Elder Card, but the cashier told me that half-price tokens for single rides and the new Elder Smartcard are for Thais only. I guess they decided to let the old Elder Card, which is no longer available, die a slow and natural death. She had no problem with me topping it up. -

President Kamala Harris
Within a week of Harris launching her campaign, Vote.org experienced its highest levels of voter registrations out of the whole election cycle, the majority of which were from those under the age of 34. NextGen America saw a 166% spike in volunteer sign-ups, the organization told Yahoo News The Harris campaign's 'weird' social strategy seems to be working. Will it translate to votes? https://ca.news.yahoo.com/the-harris-campaigns-weird-social-strategy-seems-to-be-working-will-it-translate-to-votes-213718486.html -

Southport Stabbing: Child Killed and Several Injured in Taylor Swift-Themed Workshop Attack
Link to the trigger you refer to. Nothing at all imaginary about the far right. People are very right to be angry, but they have no right to take the law into their own hands and absolutely no right to violently attack a totally innocent community. -

Train Hits & Kills 15-Year-Old Student in Udon Thani
At 09:40 on August 2, 2024, Pol. Lt. Col. Theerapap Phukhunsai, an investigator from Mueang Udon Thani Police Station, received a report of a fatal collision between a train and a motorcycle. The accident occurred at an unofficial railway crossing between Thung Sawang and Nong Lek communities in the municipality of Udon Thani. Emergency responders, including a doctor from Udon Thani Hospital and volunteers from the Udon Thani Promotion Foundation, arrived at the scene. They found the freight train No. 555 stopped about 10 meters from the accident site. A crowd had gathered around the body of a 15-year-old student from Wat Phothiwararam community and a first-year vocational student in Udon Thani. She was lying face down, her mobile phone was broken nearby and her helmet had come off. Nearby was her blue Honda Giorno motorcycle, which was new and without a license plate, lying damaged in the grass. The autopsy revealed a fractured skull on the right side and a broken neck. Her body was taken to the Udon Thani Hospital morgue. The train's rear-end controller stated that train No. 555 was transporting freight containers from Laem Chabang, Chonburi, to Nong Khai Station. As the train left Udon Thani Station and approached the accident site, the driver saw the victim riding her motorcycle from right to left. Despite attempting to brake, the driver was unable to stop in time and collided with her. The train was stopped, and they attempted to assist, but the victim had already passed away. Eyewitnesses reported that the crossing where the accident occurred was an unofficial one made by locals and lacked barriers or warning signals. An eyewitness, standing about 100 meters from the site, saw the victim riding from Nong Lek community towards Thung Sawang community. At the same time, the train approached at high speed without sounding its horn. The victim appeared not to notice the train and crossed the tracks just as the train arrived, resulting in the fatal collision. The eyewitness urged caution, advising those crossing the railway to stop and check both directions before proceeding. Pictures from responders. -

Thai gov. to tax (remitted) income from abroad for tax residents starting 2024 - Part II
I would respectfully suggest that you take the trouble to purchase a suitably reliable crystal ball in order to provide what you consider to be satisfactory answers to your various questions. If and when you have succeeded in making the necessary purchase, please then share the details of how you went about this with us since I can see no lists of suitable balls for sale on Lazada. -

Southport Stabbing: Child Killed and Several Injured in Taylor Swift-Themed Workshop Attack
I should take that up with those ranting against asylum seekers and Muslims, especially those engaging in rioting and other forms of violence on the basis of a willingness to believe the false reports and misinformation. -

Southport Stabbing: Child Killed and Several Injured in Taylor Swift-Themed Workshop Attack
I was under the impression that the trigger for the riots was an asian man turning up to a peaceful vigil with a knife who was apprehended by the police. Are you saying that this was Nigel Farage in some kind of disguise? If so I agree that is disgraceful behaviour. Anyway, maybe in your bubble everything is fine but outside of there let me give you the lowdown of why people are a little bit angry. There was a massacre at a kids dance class where 3 little girls were killed. Starmers response is to come down hard on the imaginary "far right" as an excuse to impose authoritarian measures rather than look at the cause of why people are a little bit angry, which is that 3 little girls were murdered. -

Thailand Adjusts Excise Taxes on Local Liquor to Boost Tourism
Earlier today, I bought a bottle of wine for 989 baht. That same wine in the USA costs about $11. In other words, somewhere along the line there’s a huge markup. According to some websites I’ve seen, wine under 1000 baht shouldn’t be taxed at all, except for VAT. And if that’s the case, does it really seem that the price in Thailand is fair? If that’s the way it is, that’s the way it is. Maybe I should be trying some Australian wine? Or wine from somewhere closer to Thailand? South African wine? Thai wine? Is there a workaround? Decent wine in the US can easily cost $50. A really good wine, $500+. I don’t mind spending money, but surely, there’s an easier way. -

90-day report must be in person after each re-entry?
I’m going to Chaeng Wattana to do my 90 day because (see original post at top) I was out of the country in May. I have changed address since my last 90 day report but not since I left the country. My landlord (actually hotel/serviced apartment) filed a TM30 online both before I left and again when I re-entered in May BUT I can’t get a screenshot of it because they say after 15 days it no longer shows in their system. Do I need the TM30 at all? If so is there a way I can just fill it out at immigration or do I somehow have to file it online (probably impossible since I’m already registered via the hotel)?
