A months ago I made a switch from True ISP to 3BB broadband Internet service. While that transition was smooth for the most part, there was a DNS issue with 3BB That issue revolved around bad DNS caching or no DNS look up at all which lead my browser to an ugly 'that URL cannot be resolved page'. I solved that problem by installing my own DNS look up and caching services with a program called TreeWalk. If you ever have problems with your ISP resolving DNS look ups or you just want to speed up the loading of pages on the Internet – then Treewalk is for you.

The great thing about Treewalk is that is it small and easy to install on Windows XP I did installed on Windows 7. In addition to increasing the speed at which web pages will load, Treewalk also reduces greatly the risk of being directed to the wrong website through an illegal process known as DNS cloaking. Since Treewalk communicates directly with the root servers at ICANN and all DNS cache is stored on your personal computer, there is less chance that somewhere along the Internet chain your DNS data will become compromised by hackers.

Some anti-virus products may incorrectly flag the "instsrv.exe" component used during installation as malware. This is commonly known as a false positive detection. More information and download if you can't download for author site try here Mirror Download TreeWalk

There are also some good tweaks that I have made to my home computer running Windows XP and 7 that has increased the speed and reliability of Treewalk, as well. The first thing I did was to disable DNS caching in Firefox and then I disabled DNS caching as well with my Windows XP,7 operating system. While disabling DNS caching in Firefox is pretty simple and free of risk, disabling the DNS caching option in Windows XP,7 requires to disable services.

Installation Treewalk

1. Turn your anti-virus or security suite OFF prior to installation. Do not let your security software delete or quarantine any TreeWalk files.

2. Install TreeWalk follow the instruction reboot your computer.

3. Install ICANN legacy gTLD add-on "fail-safe" (ISP type DNS Slave Root). The slave-root add-ons have been updated to use the latest root-zone versions and to reflect some root DNS changes.

You can also use the open-dns server 208.67.222.222 as second lookup dns server

so if you have a asdl router then just make a fixed ip address

in your tcp-ip properties:

like :

ip-address: 192.168.1.178

subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

default gateway: 192.168.1.1

preferred DNS server: 192.168.1.1

alternetive DNS server: 208.67.222.222

or

if your router wants a 192.168.0.xxx

ip-address: 192.168.0.178

subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

default gateway: 192.168.0.1

preferred DNS server: 192.168.0.1

alternetive DNS server: 208.67.222.222

You can also manually add IP address lookups to your local hosts. file - that is the first place your computer attempts to resolve a URL/URI before starting the DNS lookup.

I suspect some Thai ISP's have been using recently assigned IP addresses for their DNS servers. IP addresses which were at some point on the 'bogon list'.

This results in a domain name not resolving at all when a nslookup is done if the bogon list on the websites DNS server is not completely up to date.

The best solution - imo - is always to use your own DNS Server (if you can).

I do that and it works great, especially because more of the malfunction you can have with your DSL connection are related to DNS servers of the ISP that are congested.

With your own DNS, it'll never be congested and you'll faster answers to your request
