:) Bought last year a stereo "A.J." at Carrefour s in Pattaya.

It hardly lasted 1 year !

Went two days ago to Carrefour to have it repaired.

Answer : Sorry we can only help you within 7 days after purchase. You have to go to an electronic shop for repair !

She handed me some visitcard of a backyard repairshop !

Furthermore :

1) I had been told when purchasing, that the guarantee would be 1 year !

(the carrefour watches must tick differently ... interesting thing !)

2) I was told it was an old model and had been replaced in the meantime !

( so what ? ... after 1 year carrefour cannot repair, because too old !)

3) I was told that if I insisted on them taking care, it would last at least 2 months before getting it back !

(now you really put me off lady ! ... blackmail is not my prefered cup of tea !)

So, what have I learned :

1) purchase your electronics in an electronic shop ... it s worth the few extra baht !

(yesterday I went to N...C..., an electronics shop on Sukhumvit Road in Pattaya and bought a new stereo Phi... !)

2) buy quality, instead of buying the cheapest.

3) I ll never go into carrefour again.

Please let me know if some of you had similar experiences !

Carrefour isn't an electrical repair shop.

The stereo you bought would have had a guarantee card with it, on that guarantee card there would be no mention of taking it back to Carrefour, or Lotus, or Big C, it would give you the details of who to get in touch with.

Bad after sales service is not always the case.

A few years ago our automatic washing machine bought at Tesco Lotus packed up. It was just inside it's 1 year warranty period still. We took it back to the store and when we hadn't heard anything back from them after a few weeks, we returned to the store and was told that it was to be repaired in another town and the repairer was charging 300 baht petrol money which Tesco Lotus wanted from us before they sent it away.

I sent an email to the Head Honcho at the time. A bloke by the name of Jeff Adams asking what the Company policy was regarding items still under warranty and explained to him what had happened so far.

I think that the sh*t must have hit the fan bacause we got a phone call from the store asking us to come in. We were met by the manager who presented my wife with a basket of fruit and then taken to the Dunkin' Donut shop for coffee and cakes. After which we were escorted to the electrical department and were told that we were getting a new machine but if we wanted a different brand from the one we had originally bought, we could choose any one we wanted.

Now that's what I call good after sales service!! :):D

I had exactly the same thing happen at Tesco. In the end I left the TV on the service counter..and presumably they dumped it.

Nah. the girl probably took it to the TV repair shop, paid 300 Baht for the repair and is still using it in her room. :)

Yeah, either that,or repaired it then sold it to a farang looking for a cheap TV for his room.

The "year 1 guarantee" is almost always a "Manufacturers Warranty" meaning you need to send the product to the Manufacturers service center for repair (not the store where you bought it).

You should receive a warranty card inside the box of your product, after you purchase this send it into the Manufacture in order to be covered (sometimes they do this in store for you)

Manufacturers service centers are notoriously slow, so the women was not blackmailing you when she said it would probably take 2 months, this is realistic.

Electronics stores are going to be the same, pretty much no stores in Thailand offer "in-store guarantees" of more than a week or 2.

I've made returns at Carrefour in Thai with zero problems or hassles. A bit slow with the process but I woudln't expect anything less. If the receipt said no returns after 7 days, then on the 8th day, any defects need to be brought up to the manufacture. Very straightforward..

I buy most of my goods at Tesco , being a UK Store it has the same customer service as you would expect and receive i UK , i have bought goods that have been faulty or damaged on getting them home and i have never had a problem getting a refund or exchange of goods, this week i went to Tesco to buy some cheap badminton bats for my children , the ones i picked where shown as 99B for a set of 2 , i took them to check out and when they where scanned the price was 699B , i got the floor manager and showed him the price tag of 99B , he then told the check out operator to sell them to me at 99B , this is one of the sale of goods laws we have in The UK so we got good service and good quality bats

For all those that say it's a "manufacturers guarentee" are talking <deleted>. A 'seller' must sell an item that is "fit for it's purpose" amongst other requirements, that includes a period of time it should be expected to work ie 'the guarantee period'. Google, 'consumer laws Thailand' and you will find the 'Consumer protection act 1979', read it, and get educated.

I bet Jeff Adams will be delighted

that we all know to moan at him now!

Yes - he was good - I had a similar experience with him regards a fridge, and got a fridge freezer in return: sadly he's no longer working for tesco Lotus - now working for another company in California

I usually buy cheap DVD players from places like tesco deliberately, the reason being that for some reason they seem to play copies better than the more expensive brand names. They rarely last more than 6 months or so, but that's OK because they are so cheap I just buy another one. What can one expect from buying cheap anyway?

I s'pose the moral of the story is: If you pay crap, you get crap.

That is actually Carrefour's stated company policy.

Now you cannot expect your till girl to know that but Carrefour always has some westerners hiding away somewhere to resolve things.

For big ticket items, pay on a western credit card for more protection.

I have had Carrefour and BigC refund after many months for broken stuff although the BigC one had been in for their repair. Only a few days, not months.

Some people would not be able to get a refund in the UK.
