It depends what visa you have.

If you have a 1 year multi-entry, then no problem. If you have a single entry or are on an extension, the permission to stay will be cancelled as soon as you leave Thailand unless you get a re-entry permit at immigration first. Otherwise you will get 15 days when you return to Thailand

If we are talking about Tachie Lek up in the Mai sai area then you do not need to take or get your passport stamped, fill in a TM card or any thing else.

You go to the Thai immigration desk tell them you not want to take your passport, have i think it is Two copies of your passport front page at the ready and the Thai immigration will give you a ONE DAY PASS you take the one day pass across the border to the Burmese Immigration office show them , have your picture taken hand over 500 BHT and they give you a card that you represent when coming back they (Burmese) then give you your Thai pass back (Piece of paper back/one day pass) , you take this back to the Thai imigration and hand it back and collect your passport no stamps no TM card to fill in.

I believe it is the equivalent to a one day pass.

I might have missed some thing out but i am sure some one will corect me :)

I believe before you had the option of paying $5 US or 500 Bht but now it is just 500 Bht as they have cottoned on that 500Bht is worth ore than the $10 US (330 Bht Approx)

That is useful to know, saves me buying a re-entry permit at immigration. I will try this way next time I go-thanks for the info

FYI. The small Immigration kiosk right near the border has closed with all applications (farang and Thai being conducted at the Immigration Office back down the road). You can also go over on your Thai Driver's licence if you wish..same fees etc..Thais 45 baht; Farangs 500..hmm.

In my case ( holding a non-immigrant "O" multi-entry visa ) the purpose of my crossing the border and re-entering is to obtain a stamp giving me permission to remain in Thailand for a further 90 days from that date.

Apart from the ease of the procedure which you describe, it would defeat my purpose and leave me with no extension.

Perhaps anyone reading your post might just bear that in mind.

Maybe when I apply for and receive an "O"- A visa I will be able to use the method you describe. I like it. Thanks for the information.

Cheers !

Yes you are quite correct with what you say about your situation but i was answering the original posters question... is there any limit how many time you may be able to do that without affecting your current visa as he just wanted to do some shopping not to get a 90 day extension/stay
