Last time i was in kl getting one i was queing and waiting to apply when i glanced through the sign on the board telling you what you required to apply and nowhere did it say about money ! I got 2 multiple ones in KL based on marriage and no they never ask me either I just brought

my pass book along to make sure if they ask, I don't fancy travelling all the way back just to fetch it

Well why do you need to show money if getting annual extension to stay? Why you need visas in first place to stay in any country ?

It's just requirement directed to ensure aliens wanting to stay long term in Thailand have some financial means to support themselves minimizing the need of thai government to fend for them and ship them back. Keeping people in IDC and deporting them costs money.

1. All visas have financial requirements for issue - even if you are not asked. For a non immigrant visa it is 20,000 baht for a single entry.

2. Consulate can ask for other supporting documents at there discretion. As said it is done to offer some proof you can support your stay - Immigration would require 400k for only 12 month stay.
