Hi guys, first time poster. Long story short, I am coming to Thailand on my own tomorrow. I was originally meant to be coming with my girlfriend, and soon to be wife, but it turns out she has been banging the next door neighbour for the past 3 months. Thats one for another time.

I get into Bangkok then basically the world is my oyster. I just want to relax and have a good time. I am looking for some sunshine as well and gather that now is not the best time, I was wondering if anyone could guide me on the best places to hit for some sun and also some fun in the evening?

I considered Pattaya and Phuket, but it seems from the weather reports that it is mainly cloudy and rainy. I also gather Phuket is extremely expensive now.

I look forward to your replies and thank you for your time.

Doyle.

Skip Pattaya, come to Phuket. West coast has nice beaches. Prices still low in most places, prices will rise Nov 1. Plenty of places to pick from. Patong where most of the action is but try Kata or Karon. Use meter taxi at airport. Most larger name hotels will pick you up for free. Use "tuk-tuks" around town with caution, they overcharge big time. Negotiate everything.

Have fun...don't use any drugs...period! zero tolerance....

Thanks for the reply. What is the weather likely to be like over the next week or so?

From what I gathered all the action seemed to be allocated to the Patong area, although if any of the other spots had some nightlife I would definitely hit it up.

Anyone with info on Samui?

Thanks people.

You could also try a bit further south. Ko Lanta usually has decent weather this time of year and will be very cheap. Or the beaches in Krabi.

Take a boat to Phuket when you're ready for some partying.

Depends how long you're staying really.

Thanks Smokes. I am staying 1 week before heading over to New Zealand to spend some time with my brother.

I'd give it a miss then no nightlife really.

If you want to see Samui best place will be Chaweng. Forecast is mainly cloudy for the next few days.

The forecast for Phuket is fairly similar.

Pot luck I guess.

I just want some sun with the option of nightlife, if only a little, available if I decide to go out and party one night.

You were right about Lanta, forecast looks good for the next week.

If you like Lanta fly to Krabi and get a bus/taxi down to Lanta and spend 3 or 4 nights there and take the boat to Phuket via Phi Phi. Stop off there if you have time.

Then a night or two in Phuket before flying back to Bangkok.

Could be an option. You reckon Lanta is my best bet for the sun?

Umm if I say yes you can bet it will be beautiful sunshine on Samui for the next week.

So just probably. My choice at this time of year on price and weather. Quiet at night though has a few bars.

I'd choose Chaweng or Patong for a week of partying though.

Sun, yes...fun, no.

Koh Lanta is package tour heaven...but forget nightlife and, ummm, ladies. It's very beautiful, but it sounds as though some company might help you get over your recent nightmare.

If I were you, I'd hit Phuket...Patong. Trust me...

The weather is very changeable at the moment, so don't rely on forecasts. They are nearly always inaccurate. You'll get some sun, it might rain now and then, but not for too long. I stayed for 2 months in Phuket at this time of year and got very tanned.

Have fun!

Thanks for all the replies guys.

I'm now stuck between Patong and Samui! Is Phuket my best bet for the weather and bang for buck? I read elesewhere that Samui can be quite expensive but on the otherhand Phuket as well.

I need to book it by tomorrow lunchtime so appreciate all input.

Thanks

Doyle

Samui will soon be entering the Rainy season. You might just escape it. Samui is also expensive.

Since you mention nightlife, action, fun and are looking for cheap I would still go with Pattaya. I wouldn't worry too much about the weather - it is probably pretty much the same everywhere at the moment - but it won't stop you having a good time or catching a bit of sun.

Try Hua Hin and Cha am, probably the driest part of Thailand, have some good beaches and hotels start at 600 baht for T.V air con etc. Can get a bus from BKK or just get a taxi from the airport approx 1,500 Baht. Plenty great restaurants, ex pat bars, girly bars and nightclubs, bars open all night. Cheaper and a lot more friendly than Phuket or Pattaya but with still plenty to do.

Just realised, it is the Asean Summit in Hua Hin...dont go there!!!!!

The OP only has a week so why muck about with expensive and inconvenient airport transfers to the southern islands. Just grab an AOT limo at the airport and you can be in Pattaya and in the hotel, on the beach or in the pub, all in less time (and cheaper) than you will be in transit at the airport and flying south! No brainer there!
