Advice For My First Visa Run Please

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a multiple entry non-immigration type o visa (12 months) and I have been here for nearly 3 months so it is nearly time for me to get a new stamp.

Am I right in understanding this new stamp will be for another 90 days?

From what I can gather I need to leave the country for the new stamp.

I am living in Bangkok.

Can anyone recommend the best place to go for a visa run?

Many thanks.

They easy way is to use one of the 2,000 baht visa bus runs to the Cambodia border and back. They run every morning and return in the afternoon and are all inclusive. Advertise in newspaper classified or a Google will find. As they include food/visa/transport believe they make more sense than doing yourself - especially for a new traveler.

I live in Pattaya and always use a company called VISA RUN (08-5287-4588) - not sure if they are in BKK as well. 3hrs in a Van (each way - I think??) every 90 days - it's a necessary evil, but not so bad :-).

From what I can gather I need to leave the country for the new stamp. Yes, you do, only if it's for an hour or so. Some people turn it into a mini holiday by flying Air Asia to a neighbouring country.

Can anyone recommend the best place to go for a visa run? Most border runners head for the Cambodian border at either Poipet or Ban Laem. Google "Jack Golf" for a pretty decent border run company. B2,000 all in

Many thanks.

Thanks for the advice. Will google for a company to take me.

Do you get a chance to do some shopping in Cambodia? :)

Cheers.

This is Jacks Golf website;

www.jackgolf.com/en/visa_run/#Cambodia

and

This is Thai Visa Run's website;

www.thaivisarun.com

If I had a choice between the two I'd take Thai Visa Run's service. They leave at about 9:30am as opposed to 5:30-6:00 for Jacks Golf. They also don't use the hideous Aranyaprathet/Poipet border which is a total nightmare; unless you happen to like poverty, bogus casinos, and beggars thick as ticks on a dog's back. IMHO Aranyaprathet and Poipet are two of the worst cities you'd ever want to visit in either Thailand or Cambodia.

I see. I'll have a look at this one.

5.30 is a bit early. Not sure if it would be easy to get a taxi at that time.

Thanks for the advice. Will google for a company to take me.

No, not really. Both destinations are solely geared to gamblers. If you have some money and a few free days, fly to Singapore, KL, P/Penh or Penang for a mini break. In the past, I've done Hong Kong as a border run!!

Vientiane is still my favorite spot, drive up, leave the car in Nong Khai, over to Vientiane for a couple nights, perhaps a run up to Vang Vieng, aka "Ban Farang," then retrace my route. Not too costly especially if you watch where you stay. Of course with diesel up now, just the fuel runs close to baht 4,000.

Can take the train, used to do that a lot too, but decided I liked having the flexibility of having my own wheels. Bus, absolutely NOT.

Mac

Good one, Mac. The train up to Lao is a goody!!
