Can anyone tell me what this means and what i should or should not do?

A small window pops up on my desktop stating: WDDM service is not running

Not really much help, but, Wiki offers an explanation.

After trying a number of things i found the pop up window was linked to an external hard drive I recently purchased.

Not knowing why the window was appearing every time I switched my computer on I decided to un-install the external hard drive software then carried out a re-install and the pop window has now gone.
