PMNL
Hi all, I have a brother there in Sisaket Wittayalai school whose english knowledge is pretty good but lack of practice and is very shy to speak it out. I've heard there are lots of English teachers at the school this year. Is there any British or American teacher there would like to work a few hours a week? Please contact me : 0835797857 Thanks in advance

jazzbo
Why don't you hang out at the school at closing time and following the farang teachers to wherever they go to have a beer or something after work... there almost always is a favorite watering hole for the teachers' wind down. Maybe offer to buy one of the teachers a beer or 2 if he/she would spend a little time with your brother. At 16, they should let him in the bar to have a Coke. Odds are of the 10 or now 11 who read your post none of them are from SiSaket-- just curiosity.

I would talk to him myself if I was there. Sisaket is a small town but there must be someone out there available for this.
hellyes2oo2
I am an englishman, who lives just outside of Sisaket(Uthom Phom Pisai) and I would love to be a teacher in school here, but sadly even though I feel that I am intelligent enough to do the job,you cannot get a job without a TEFL certificate, and at the age of 56, I just don't want to be bothered studying for one. I cannot even offer to do the job on a voluntary basis, at the local school, where they have no english speaking teachers at all, and the kids have to try to learn from teachers who can speak only a few words because it is not allowed.I help a lot of the kids in the village to do their homework, and try to help them learn a few sentences, but to be honest, most of the kids here know that there will be no education for them after the age of 16, and they accept the fact that they will probably just get a job labouring in Bangkok or some other place far away from home, so they don't really bother to try too hard to learn. Sad, but true. I hope you find someone to help your brother. Good Luck.
PMNL
Where in Utumporn Pisai you are? Near Sompoi? Do you know Kamphaeng school?? Myself and My brother used to study there. It is a district school and as far as I know, there is no English teacher. I know the teachers there very well and they have English teachers. Wouldnt it be great if you can go there a few times a week to talk to them?? Back home in CNX, I know quite a few generous farangs who are on their 60-70's go to teach the young monks 4 days of the week. They are retiree so they are really happy to have something to do, something good and valuable to the poor kids. I wish there is someone like that in Isaan, specially Sisaket, to give out an apportunity to those poor little kids. Back To Topic Is there anyone in Sisaket? PaddyThai
If you are living in Sisaket why can't you help the kid. Your English is obviously good and I presume English is your first language.
gosompoi
I tried to call but it said the number was not availble at this time. I am an American from California living in Sisaket in Ban Sompoi I would be happy to help. I will send you a PM.
jazzbo
Maybe in addition to the nice reply from Kuhn G., you should try something other than formal lessons. What if your brother -- maybe with your assistance -- approached the teachers to do chores around the house for an hour or 2 each week and have some conversation at the same time? There are things your brother may know to help and get the English practice to boot... also a teacher after a hard day does not want more teaching... and I now assume you are living in Bangkok or elsewhere. If you really wanted to teach you could have it in a month. They do teach you what you need to know. It is a hard month of studying, but can be done if you really wanted to be a teacher. PMNL
If you are living in Sisaket why can't you help the kid. Your English is obviously good and I presume English is your first language. No, English is not my mother language and No, Mr and Mrs PMNL are not in SSK. It is very hard to find an English teacher there.Cant believe it. Since my brother is studying at the aforementioned school and he is taking some extra- classes at the same time. Travel to Sompoi would not be good idea for now. I was expecting to find one of the teachers from his school or someone who lives nearby just to spend a few hours a week talking to him, get him to read simple article in Engliah out loud, just to practice converstion. Any one out there?

Any one out there? What about trying to ask at one of the farang restaurants? Both places have been more than helpful in helping me and I am sure they will help if they know someone. There is one on Thanon Khwanghen across from the bus station and one on Thanon Wijitnakorn on the right side after it crosses Thanon Siwicet. Dave the Dude
Hi I do not know Srisaket very well, but thought Id mention, I was at the bikeshow last Saturday and also visited Franks Pizza place in town. There were a number of farang English teachers dining in there and they might be able to help others to locate a teacher? Good Grub too! Tim Hi Tim, I will be going to Thailand to and I would be more than happy to volunteer to teach any age to learn english. But even as a volunteer one must have a work permit. You can't even get hired now without a degree first and foremost. There are restrictions on B-visa extensions now. If you have not taken the teacher certification test, you must get a letter from the area educational office that says it's ok for you to teach and that you are in the process of applying for the upcoming test session.
