Fuel Injectors

The main causes of fuel injector wear or failure is contamination of the fuel system and corrosion due to moisture in the fuel. Injector performance can be affected by particles as little as 10 microns (0.01mm).

Replacement benefits, compared to worn fuel injectors:

  • Restore original spray pattern
  • Improve fuel mixture formation resulting in improved overall vehicle performance
  • Reduce rough running caused by non uniform spray dynamics

What about remanufactured injectors?

Remanufactured injectors as they are commonly known are just second hand injectors that have been cleaned in an ultrasonic bath, fitted with a new strainer and o ring. Before choosing between new or reconditioned injectors consider the following points:

  • Ultrasonic cleaning only cleans the nozzle tip and does not clean the inside of the injector
  • Ultrasonic cleaning does not clean any rust or corrosion within the injector, which if present will lead to premature injector failure or poor spray patterns
  • Modern style injectors, such as EV6 are of similar price new as ultrasonically cleaned remanufactured units. Why would you buy second hand?

Several years ago, Honda in pattaya had some special service for cleaning injectors. Was 900 baht or so. It made a big difference in performance. Much better acceleration and could readily bounce it off the redline. Would love to get that kind of service again.

I can remember back in the states in the 80s when for some reason the GM V6s all had fuel injector fouling problems. I had a brand new '85 Buick Electra and after a few thousand miles the sucker would shake and sound like a diesel. Often had to have the injectors serviced at the dealership. Then it would be smooth as silk for awhile. Strange.

Out of curiosity, is injector fouling common here given the quality of fuel generally available? Speaking in reference to having a new Toyota or Honda, say 1-2 years old. Or is injector fouling so unusual in a newer car that one need not be concerned? Any difference with gasohol vs benzine?

If the vehicle is approved for gasohol, gasohol in general keeps the fuel system cleaner.

I have not experienced any injector problems with my cars/trucks but only covered 70k km each so far. My cars run gasohol, and my truck runs Shell V-Power which is a Euro 4 diesel much cleaner than B5 or ordinary Euro 3 diesel.

garknes, don't know where you are but I've found several shops around the Sattahip/Rayong area. Signs are always in Thai so you have to drive slow to see them. Every town has an area of car repair joints on the main road so just look for a place with an oily sidewalk in front of it. They charge about B75 per injector and do a really good job.
