Having 2 Passports

Featured Replies

I work in Africa but live in Thailand. 6 weeks at work, 6 weeks off. I have a multi O visa but getting it renewed each year is a pain as it never expires at the right time for me being in Thailand to process the application. I was thinking of getting a second passport which I could send, via a UK address, to the Hull embassy for a new multi O. I guess this would be technically against the rules but would it flag up on anything. I can get the new visa processed when I am at work so I wouldnt be in Thailand whilst it was being done.

Cost of a second passport is around £100 for a 10 year one. Compared to the cost of a yearly visa run to Indonesia or another country should work out much cheaper.

Has anyone else tried this or have any info on it.

For mine mate, don't do it. You live half of the time in Thailand. Don't prejudice that.

I believe it's only illegal if you are in Thailand when the passport is sent out of country to get a Thai visa.

I would just stop in the middle east or KL to obtain a new multi entry visa each year. You seem to qualify for extensions of stay so should be able to obtain multi entry from a number of places.

Sending your passport on holiday is illegal anywhere by international law.

Can you provide some information to support that statement?

False.

Many times we underestimate Thais, and many times quite rightly.

Never underestimate their use of IT to track the comings and goings of foreigners, and what passport and visa is in use at a given time.

Disting, I can’t quite understand why you think a second passport would benefit you. Are the six weeks you are at work in Africa not enough to get a new visa whenever you need it?

Maestro, I work in Nigeria and there is no Thai embassy in country. Used to be but it closed. Dont blame them either.

many business people I work with have two or three British passports to enable travel while some embasyy take ten days to process visa application. As long as you are in possession of atleast one current passport, would it really matter if the other was sent to UK. Suggest it is not posted direct to Hull but to an intermediate address in UK and then on to Hull ?

Talk with the Thai authorities, Talk to The US,UK,AUS,and the UN, go back into the archives of TV and see who got busted the bottom line sending your Passport on holiday from one country to another is ILLEGAL.

Actually it's not illegal in any way shape or form to send a PP to another country to have a visa inserted, many countries do not have a suitable embassy so the only way to get a visa for these countries is by post.

BUT

Sending a PP from WITHIN Thailand to get a new THAI visa is not permitted (and gets spotted by the Thai authorities).

I would not be somewhere like Nigeria without my PP, so the OPs idea of getting a second UK passport (quite legal, but not as easy to do now as it used to be) and sending that from outside Thailand to get a new visa is a good way.

ANOTHER BUT

I believe the Thai rules state you are supposed to be in the jurisdiction of the country in which you are applying so sending to the UK from Nigeria would contravene this rule.

Obtaining a second UK passport requires a very good reason and will need supporting paperwork from the company you work for.

I spent ten years working in China and had two passports during that period to enable travel at short notice while satisfying Chinese visa and work permit requirements with either one or the other passport.

It caused no end of confusion when travelling and often ended up with a lengthy explanation to immigration at several ports of entry and/or departure whenever I had entered the country on one passport while departing on another.

Yup ^^^.

I have two UK passports, it is vital ensure that you always exit a country on the same PP that you entered it (so make sure you send the right one off). Forgetting this tiny point can lead to a world of hurt.
