Hi everyone

Do you need to get a visa before travelling to malaysia iam thinking of going to penang with my thai girlfriend or is it the same as thailand fill out the immigration card on the plane

Just visited Malaysia for the Moto GP a few weeks ago.

I am British and I took along my young brother in law (18) who is Thai.

Twenty questions from Thai immigration on the way out, asking what our relationship is :) ( good for me I brought along my marraige cert to show them).

Upon entry into Malaysia (airport) we both filled in entry cards , similar to Thailand.

I received a stay of 90 days.

He received a stay of 30 days.

Malaysian Immigration is far less hassle then THAI.

you get 90 days on the spot as a Brit.

just don't try to bring in drugs, otherwise your head will be missing soon :)

Usualy no problem with Malaysian Immigration, once they wanted to see a confirmed return ticket, with a date from my Thai GF, but with me intervening an open date ticket was also ok.

Stick near her at the Passportcontrol, so they see she belongs to you, than sure no problem.

I was just coming back three days ago from PENANG, was my first visit there.

I rent a car, the city Georgetown, you have to pass that town a bit coming from the airport has a terrible strong slowly traffic.

Outside than in the small islands countryside its nice and fine, the main beach and all beaches and the water are ok, but cannot be compared with most thai beaches which are a bit better.

A trip with the Cable car on the Penang hill is a must! The Butterfly garden and the Spicys garden are also worth a visit.

Enjoy.

well, Penang is not known as a beach-destination. Georgetown is a Megacity of more than 1 million people, the water is not clear and there are jellyfish abound.

Penang is more a cultural destination and has a rich and diverse heritage.

If you prefer beaches, go to nearby laidback Langkawi (best beach is secluded Tanjung Rhu).

You are right, but the main beach Terrenganu, or similar, is not so bad and there you have also a lot Hotels on the beachfront.

The island is charming, only that big city on such a small island is misplaced.

Anyway if its not for a Visatrip to the Thai consulate in Georgetown, I would always prefer to go for a trip to the more nice, bigger and much less populated Langkawi island.

But also here is to say, most Thai beaches (Special island beaches) are better in Thailand.

Maybe on Langkawi occupied by 5 Star Hotels and not easy accesable, but Langkawi has a very beautiful hilly countryside and an impressive cable car too..

TERRENGANU is a state at the east coast.

you mean BATU FERRINGHI (which means PORTUGUESE ROCK), I assume :)

Yes, you are completely right.

One more thing, I never saw more direction signs on roads than I saw on Penang Island.

On Penang main roads you have in very short distances, signs after signs, thats surely better than no signs.

Maybe thats the reason, I rememberd it wrong. Terrenganu, Batu Ferringhi and much more, so many signs and many names.
