Abhisit urges Chavalit to review his role

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva Wednesday urged former PM Chavalit Yongchaiyudh to review his role after he had caused a diplomatic spat between Cambodia and Thailand.

"I thought he returned to politics to bring about reconciliation. But his just one trip abroad caused problems to the two countries and caused hostile atmosphere," Abhisit said.

"He should review his role. If he wants to work in politics, he should have give priority to national order, interest and the honor of the country."

Gen. Chavalit is all right. He (gen Chavalit) may even help settle southern unrest, if the gov. will hear what he has to say.

Concerning Thai-Cambodian relation, it's our PM who took the wrong countermeasure toward Cambodia premier. Abhisit has only himself to blame for underestimating Hun Sen, and makes situation getting worse.

through the time, I notice Abhisit always make sarcastic remarks on the other. Don't be so arrogant, mister. If you think you have more brainfolds than other, try use them wisely. Don't show off too often.

EXCELLENT REMARK

In French, we call this politic "the arsonist fireman".

Abi despises Cambodian people and after he's surprised to not be loved.

It's time for Thai people to understand that 1 Thai = 1 person = 1 Khmer.

Bravo, geovalin! But familiarity with the Thai elite mindset tells you this will NEVER happen. Khmer are considered untouchable!

Where does one find reference to Abhisit hating Cambodians?

Or is this just assumed because other Hi So's look down on their maids?

Abhisit was not raised full time in Thai Hi So society and so likely has a much different view on them.

Disliking Hun Sen is a no brainer, most of the worlds leaders don't find him an appetizing character,

to be held at arms length at worst if business demands it.

I don't see a gross over-reaction vis a vis Cambodia's stirring the pot, they obviously

are the aggressor in this little talking match and I have seen nothing by classic diplomatic maneuvers

between Thailand and Cambodia... remember too which side is taking hostages and throwing out international conventions.

and it is NOT Thailand.

Clearly Chavalit went and set this all on motion, and is the secondarily central figure to blame.

Undoubtedly, he was brought up in the truly elite Eton.

I don't even bother to combine "hi-so" and "Elite" in Thai society. One would know instantly that the "Hi-so" have branded themselves as such, whilst the truly elite wait for others to call themselves so, and then deny it completely.

Thai-Hi-So are the Yuppies of the day.

To build a nation at a cultural crossroads like Thailand is, it was thought necessary to inculcate an

extra strong dose of Us Vs Them uber-nationalism, and make a "thai" definition to differentiate vs it's nearly identical neighbors.

So ages old disputes were re-magnified, and brought to the forefront as cultural sign posts for the people to rally around.

Makes no difference how much Khmer or Chinese blood you have, change the name and become THAI or leave,

or be marginalized or run off. Then add social structures to reinforce this Thai-ness, and add generational mental entrainment groups,

like mandatory scouting and rote learning from nationalized texts that inculcated the chossen world view for 'ALL GOOD THAI's' to believe.

All this has created 'Thailand the nation', but now the other side of that nationalist coin is rearing it's ineffective head,

they are now so over programed against their neighbors, it is hard to do business. It is hard for them to NOT

feel above most people, because this was beaten into their heads from decades of institutionalized schooling

and social construction-ism. Well they have the country, but make it work with these 30's era social strictures,

is proving problematic in this modern world.

Fortunately with internet and world communications showing alternatives to the just coming of age and younger Thai's,

we are at a social cross roads of understanding, and things are changing. Dinosaurs like Chavalit will die off

of natural uselessness in this new world, and new generations of leaders will take back a more world viewing control

of the nation and of social functioning. Abhisit has not the ability to abruptly cut off the dead weight of 80 year old

social constructs, but he IS showing some progress in that direction and this is why he should be supported.

One never sees the die of off old dinosaurs, as the new ones gradually displace them, but it has long happened,

and political Darwinism is in the wind in Thailand. How long it takes and how far it goes is anyone's guess of course.
