Hello,

Could someone tell me what the situation is regarding health care in the UK for my Thai wife please? My wife will be entering the UK on a settlement visa and I wondered if she will be entitled to NHS treatment if she is sick, or if we have to pay for medication and doctor appointments etc.

Also, we are just about to submit our visa application very soon. Would it make sense to put my wife's name on the utility bills now, so that when she's here she can prove her address for setting up bank accounts etc.

Many thanks!

Yes, as she will be in the UK as a resident she will be entitled to the same NHS treatment and benefits as any other UK resident. You should register her with a GP as soon as possible after she arrives.

It is a good idea to have utility bills in joint names, not only for opening a bank account but for her ILR application in 2 years. Up to you whether you do it now or wait for her arrival.

BTW, I've edited the topic title to include 'UK.'
