Thai Divorce Recognized In U.s., Involving U.s. Consulate?

Featured Replies

I read somewhere in the past that it is possible to obtain a divorce in thailand which, through some involvement

of the u.s. consulate, is recognized in the u.s. My thai wife and I were married in the u.s. while traveling there (I am

a u.s. citizen).

Anyone have knowledge of this?

Hmmm, no comments by folks more knowledgeable than I am on the issue?

FYI, my wife was previously married to a Thai guy then later she obtained a Thai divorce in a court action. When we later got married in the U.S. I showed a translated copy of the Thai divorce decree when we obtained the marriage license in Oregon. No problem.

There was absolutely NO involvement of the U.S. Consulate here. It's not needed and I really doubt that they have any mandate to take any action in such civil matters.
