Internet Suggestions

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, please be gentle - this is my first post.

I live out in the sticks and can't get broadband. I've heard all sorts of other ways of getting the internet, some believable, some not. The best way seems to be a mobile phone with TT&T. Has anyone any experience with this?

Any other suggestions would be most welcome (apart from moving house - I love it).

Cheers

I've heard good things from forum members using CAT-CDMA.

A modern mobile will come with edge then all you need is to set up an account with AIS or DTAC , install the software that comes with the mobile into your PC follow the guidelines and away you go. I have a samsung that uses Samsung PC Studio Three and know numerous people that use it all over the country. Anywhere you can get a mobile signal, you can get internet. Also note that cable TV companies also now offer internet bb, supanet is one example so do a bit more research and find out if any of then are in your area.

Great. Thanks for the info. I'll get onto it ASAP.

Edge maxes out around 130-160 kb/sec. Check if you can get the CAT-CDMA, which is very much faster (on Phuket we get around 600-800 kbps). Also consider the satellite connections, which go around 200 kbps (they advertise far more but don't deliver).

It would be easier to make recommendations if you would be a bit specific re which sticks you live in; just about all of LOS is sticks.

Good idea, I always forget the details.

I live in the south. In a place called Patthalung which is near Trang. I live nowhere near town, though. The village is called Ban Na, It's about 1km down narrow streets, off the main Phuket - Hat Yai road.

I'd agree with CAT CDMA Mobile USB connection.

I took mine with me this summer when visiting friends near Thali Noi Lake... Worked fine on the Laptop... where I was probably more "in the sticks" (or water!) than where you are.

One caution at the moment the MC727 model does not have a driver for Windows 7 (Mac & XP or Vista are OK) From other postings in the forum, the other models seem to work OK, with W7.

I also use an extension lead on my MC727 & hang the receiver on a curtain, which helps the signal. (Just a USB cable & a "lady lady" connector.) . I find CAT-CDMA service good here on Samui.

Good luck!

I alsso live out in the village and think i might have soled the internet problem here in thailand. any Aussies here i got a couple questions on your internet back home. please contact me if u have satilite service internet back home
