I have just purchased a sling box that is suppose to allow me the access my UK sky satellite programs from anywhere in the world via the internet.

Basically you connect two censors from the sling box to the infrared reciever on the sky box. The sling box is then connected to your router.

You can then watch and change channels over the internet from anywhere in the world.

Has anyone tried this system?

We are still in the UK and I hope this will be a good way of watching sky when we move to LOS.

Thanks.

No direct experience of this but I can envisage a couple of issues. The box must be a web server of sorts. Most ISPs dont allow web servers as they infringe acceptable use policy owing to the amount of data uploaded. Also most ISPs have very slow upload speeds compared to download, so the upload might not be fast enough for TV.

Then, the download speed in Thailand might also not be fast enough and might also infringe acceptable use policy after a while owing to volume of data.

But very interested to find out if it does work.

I have used one of these for a while with my 2nd home in Spain and its really good! - I also tried once in BKK at a public wi-fi and it was great! No probs with quality and it buffers so not jumpy after 30 secs its fine and very good - :)
