LaoPo Technically, it's news reporting - citing one un-named cabinet source, then citing Suthep, then citing a named spokesman citing Suthep..... meaning you could be forgiven for thinking it's all from Suthep..... but then again - so what? It's sloppy writing that wouldn't be acceptable in most "quality" news media but there's no shortage of examples like this in both The Nation and Bangkok Post - and thus there's no reason to dwell on TVF's business partner. Except, of course, we don't get to see the Post material reproduced here. There are other English language resources out there - people should check them out and post here on TVF what they think is relevant to the discussion. Of course, quoting from/linking to blogs that contain opposing views will predictably attract the neat comment (from those who disagree with those views) that "it's only a blog" i.e. worthless. That seems a curious attitude when the same posters often seem happy to treat all Nation opinion pieces (some) packed with speculation, inaccuracies and unsupported claims almost as if they were holy writ. As seen from the responses posted on them, readers are quick to identify where they think the blog writer has jumped to unsupported or irrational conclusions; the better blogs are not aimed at just lock-step devotees of the blogger's views and IMO have a valuable contribution to make. Can somebody point me in the direction of these other English language resources or better still an English language news source that isn't completely one sided cause i'm sick to death of reading this Nation SH*TE every day. This has nothing to do with not liking the message.First of all as so many times has been posted on this forum by certain posters who seem to have 2 rules,one for themselves and another for the rest of the members,I am a guest in this country so I obbey by the rules of my host. Second I am not into politics of this particular country as I don't have the right to because again I'm only a guest. Third is that the TV rules say not to post negative comments about Thai people,in my opinion Thaksin is however a fugitive convicted person still a Thai national,so I don't have the right to post or encourage negative comments against him. And last of all it seems from the news items published that The Nation is extremely one sided and that get a bit boring if it is spread over the TV homepage day after day. I think I'm not the only one who thinks the constant stream of "news" or "made-up news" about Thai Politics is becoming so obviously one-sided and biased that there is no more space for -independent- quality news about Thailand and Thai politics -if there is any!-. I am a TV member for over 5 years now but the stream of news is becoming exclusively one-sided since I hardly read any other news than posted and sourced by The Nation. That's a risky road for TV since I always considered TV to be rather quality informed since Administration and Super Mods were posting from various sources; now the source is limited if not almost completely one-sided. I don't think anyone was having a go at you, seems your job is to post here every day whatever the Nations latest anti red rant is. I've complained about this before, intersting to see others doing so as well. Another paper ran the story as to why after all this time no yellows have been prosecuted for the airport seizure, and yet reds are harassed, arrested and jailed. But you will never see that in The Nation or mentioned here. Just look at today's ho-hum story about supposed chaos from the reds, all from a comment by a government minister. No backup, no querying the reds, just the usual biased rubbish. Quite frankly the Nation is unresearched, repetitive and boring. The government deemed it appropriate to lift the security law because the red shirts have called off their planned rallies and have not rescheduled them so far" in bold are emotional expressions, they are not news but the comment by the journalist, a form of political propaganda, which you can expect from a political party tabloid and not from a broadsheet paper addsessed to expatriate community. it's said, that the plans are for the parliamentary means and thed demos were not rescheduled - every opposition party has the right to use parliamentary to fightt. it's clear, that this newspaper is very biased in their political opinions, but I do understand, that is fully dependent on it's sponsors (be it the thai government, political establishment, advertises, ambsassies or even foreign secret services). hence should be boycotted. sbk Posted December 2, 2009 Share Posted December 2, 2009 Interesting topic guys and I wonder why so many of you managed to ignore the one that ran in General recently where I specifically posted that members were welcome to post news, within the allowed guidelines (ie first 3 sentences and a link except for the Bangkok Post and AP which do not allow us to quote or link them at all) in General and to request that the topic be moved into News....... and yet, and yet.. ... I see very few News threads from the main complainants on this thread. Imagine that. Given that this has turned into a gripe fest and has nothing to do with the topic, I am closing it and asking yet once again, that if you actually have some NEWS from an accredited news source, that is allowed on this forum, then feel free to post. If you are unsure as to HOW to post news or what sources allow us to use them, then feel free to PM me.
