Police nab drug users for wrong reasons: support groups

A Bangkok-based drug-users support group and the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/Aids out of Canada on Thursday accused the Thai police of committing serious ethical violation by setting a pseudo sting operation to nab injection drug users (IDU) while seeking treatment.

Nearly half of the 252 IDU surveyed said police has planted drugs on them and claimed that they had to pay bribe to the police to avoid arrest.

"This form of drug planting was found to be associated with numerous health-related harms including syringe sharing and drug-related overdose," said Thai AIDS Treatment Action Group (TTAG) and the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS (Vancouver, Canada), in a statement released Thursday.

"Further, half of those IDU who reported having had drugs planted on them by police said they paid a bribe in order to avoid the arrest.

I think it's hard for the small people to get ahead. Seems the cards are really stacked against them.

Keeps people in their place.

<deleted> :)

This is so sad. People looking for away out of their suffering to be caught in a web of greed. Just like Mr. T’s anti drug campaign. Kill them as the come out of rehab.

Am I the only one that thinks that perhaps these drug addicts got caught with drugs but merely claimed they'd been planted ?

You see this is where things leed when a system is rotten to the core with corruption.....nobody ever knows where the truth lies. Even the lies of junkies can seem credible. :)

The corruption is the the same all over where money is king, time to police the police that police the police. Anyone think this is possible here in the long run, or will it always be the bigwigs that come out ahead?

Corruption and Cancer are very similar. You cut a bit of corruption out over here and another bit appears over there. Once Corruption is engrained into an organisation or society such as this, my bet would be its virtually impossible to weed out.

Pity.

Pity for the people that have no choice but to be here to be victimised by this.
