I was in the American Embassy last week to order some forms to satisfy a local district office.

While I was waiting a burly American tourist wearing not much more than a tank top, shorts, and tennis shoes took his turn.

The entire waiting room listened as he told his story to the embassy staff member.

He had just arrived in Bangkok from the states as he has done every year for the pass 10 years.

He was out for a walk and 3 Thai ladies befriended him. He believed it was a Thai mom and her 2 daughters.

Apparently they had a good time walking around together and having diner at a restaurant.

It was a good show they put on because they drugged him and dragged him to an ally.

He woke up the next morning bruised and scratched without passport, money, credit cards, and his airline ticket.

Local police bought him a sandwich and drove him to the American Embassy.

The embassy said they would issue a temporary passport but he would have to pay the fees.

They showed him how to get money wired from Western Union and when I was leaving they were taking his picture.

Several people in the waiting took up a collection for him so he could get back to his hotel.

According to him they never made it to a hotel. They must have drugged him while on the street.

He did sound a bit naive and that was just what the tricksters were looking for.

There has been more than one Thai lady huckster I have told to go F themselves at their various nefarious suggestions. If a guy chooses to take one of these ladies to his room, make sure anything you can't afford to lose is locked in the room or hotel safe. And definitely have them leave their ID cards at the front desk. And if the lady tries to hassle you for more money than you are willing to pay, don't be afraid to physically toss them out on their keesters. And, try to stay in decent physical condition; they tend to not screw with foreigners that are in athletic/good condition.

Som Nam Na - you play with fire and well you are bound to get burnt. I swear people never fking learn.

1. Do not keep vasts sums of dosh in your room.

2. Never accept a drink from anyone you do not know. (get your own drink and always keep an eye on it)

3. Lock everything up in your room that you are not prepared to lose.

4. Wee morning hrs - go to sleep and do not pick up loitering katoeys at 711.

As for the yank - why is he walking around with passport, airline tickets and all his dosh? If he has been coming here for 10yrs - he should know better to carry these things and go off with 3 strangers he does not know. I swear are people still that trusting these days???? :)

Yeah, that sent up a red flag for me, too. They never made it to his hotel, but yet they stole his airline ticket? C'mon guys, when was the last time you went out and about ... at night ... and stuffed your airline ticket in your pockets?

Theres nothing to debate in these stories, they are just all so :D laughable.

Ohh, the title to the thread is a little misleading, it should have the word ' Pattaya' in it & it would save anyone actually having to open the thread to have a laugh. :)

I have been pushing my luck w visitors myself

had a guy 1 floor up from me drugged and he came close to dying!

high season is a bust, i see desperation setting in already in my travels

Completely agree - I sense the desperation too. Manifests itself in agressive behavior. If I do head out for a drink I only go out now to places where I'm known. Going to new places is just not worth the hassle anymore.
