It's a Suzuki GSXR 750. Year 2001. Never had any problems and has always ran great, even today when this light came on, on the way home. Without the indication I would think everything is fine based on performance, sound, etc, etc.

One thing. Just today the red FI LED indicator turned on, and every 2 seconds the LCD indicated "FI" where the temperature would be, and then switches back. I checked the manual and this means there is something wrong with one of the sensors in the FI system.

The stupid thing is, in "User Mode" it only indicates that there is a problem, and it needs to be put in "Dealer Mode" in order to display an exact malfunction code on the LED. To put it in "Dealer Mode" you need a special tool that can be turned on and attached to something under the rear seat. I don't know why they would make it so you need a special tool to see the malfunction code....

I believe I do not have this special tool.. Does anyone know anything of this?

This is from the manual as far as "User Mode" goes. (ECM is the central CPU that receives all the signals from various sensors in the FI system)

There are two conditions for "User Mode."

1. When one of the signals is not recieved by the ECM, the fail-safe circuit works and injection is not stopped. In this case, "FI" and coolant temp are indicated in the LCD panel and motorcycle can run.

2. The injection singal is stopped, when the camshaft position sensor signal, crankshaft position signal, tip over sensor signal, #1/#2, #3 and #4 ignition signal. #1, #2, #3 and #4 injector signals, fuel pump relay signal or ignition switch signal is not sent to ECM. In this case, "FI" is indicated in the LCD panel. Motorcycle does not run.

Luckily, my case is is case 1..... Maybe this can help get an idea....

I have a feeling the only place that ill have such a "tool" or "probe" will be the Suzuki BigBike dealer in Lat Phrao....

If not, I will have to purchase a voltage reader and check all the possible malfunction codes. Theres only about 15 different codes and most of the malfunctions are distinguishable by a voltage reading at the sensor.....

Luckily I've got this manual!

Try calling Graham at Highside tours race training at Bira race track, Pattaya. He runs Gixxer 750's as his race bikes, so may have the info or a good mechanic for ya.

I came back for 2 weeks holiday, but I need to go back tomorrow morning. Basically everyone else at work has taken Xmas off so I need to be back in the office, plus flights are difficult to get round this time. Had a nice 2 weeks back here; first week we went up to Kanchanaburi and did some camping and stuff up there with the kids and gf. Very nice. I don't mind going back; get quite bored here sometimes, and its good to make money. There is only so much bike fixing I can do to keep myself busy here :) I have a suspension rebuild on my Honda Civic waiting for me back in the UK when I return (to get the car past the vechical test for another year) :D

Hows the studying going? I was thinking of doing a masters here; it would set me up for doing computing lecturing at the Uni's here. What do you think?

Have you tried googling "suzuki f1 gsx". I found this as a way of clearing the code: http://www.gixxer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=110957

And this: http://www.bikez.com/msgboard/msg.php?str_...ke&id=20055

I have this file if you are interested: Suzuki_GSX-R750_2000-2002_Service_Manual.pdf 146Mb.

I have a user manual that has absolutely everything in it. I can see all the malfunction codes if I could get it into "Dealer Mode."

That 1st link was nice, but most of the guys were talking about clipping a wire or playing with the system to get the FI indicator to go away, but I'm more interested in trying to figure out why it came on. At the end of the topic a guy started gettign into it, but my gf wants to play a videogame now. I'll read it after eating.

Think it might be the quality of the fuel that kicked it off. Seems like it comes on from time to time, maybe after a refuel? It was getting very technical and I was too lazy to follow it all through :) Anyway, seems like there is lots of resources on the internet so you should be able to work through it without an expensive visit to a specialist mechanic.

Well I did some reading and exploring the bike. Took of the fairings.

I called the guy from Pataya and he said that the "special tool" you need for "dealer mode" is just a wire with an on/off switch that you connect to a plug to short it out, and then you get dealer mode.

I took off the fairing and disconnected the rear light. I found the plug and took off the rubber case to inspect it. After this I turn the ignition on and off many times and the FI indicator was nolonger there. I played around for a while, connecting the rear light back on, and still nothing. As if there was no problem.....

I didn't even really do anything. It was weird because before I took of the fairing to check in the morning, the FI indicator was still there... Then when I took of the fiaring, disconnected the rear light, and looked at the plug, it has never came back.

But one weird thing. I noticed a weird sound from under the tank so I lifted the tank, to find that the "secondary throttle valve actuator" was opening and closing non stop. Normally when you turn on the ignition, this "STV actuator" opens and closes once to check, but mine was opening and closing and wouldn't seem to stop.

I played around, turning the ignition on and off. Some times when I turned the ignition on it would just open and close once as normal, and sometimes it would go on and off over and over. If I started the engine it would stop and then if I turned the engine off, it wouldnt move again. But if I turned the ingition off and then on again, sometimes it doesn't stop opening and closing..... can't figure out why sometimes it acts as normal but sometimes not....

I read about it in the manual, and it said, normally, if there is a problem with the "STV actuator" it will go to failsafe mode and leave it open all the time..... But the thing is there is now no more indicator on the LCD, and I didn't mess with anything....

Does anyone know how I can check if the STV actuator is working properly..... What should it do when the engine is reved, or what things would make it function (if it is working properly).... When should it open, close, or half close, or whatever?

The LCd started indicating FI again so I checked the code by shorting out the connecter under the rear seat to put it in dealer mode. The code was c28, which matched up with the Secondary Throttle Valve Actuator...

It is maladjusted, have engine problem, a short circuit, or a bad sensor...

Will have to look later...

Plus now it lost power and in high revs in fails.....
