Vista Home 64 Explorer Crashing

Featured Replies

I have windows home premium 64bit [legal]. very fast computer with lots of memory so that is not a problem. most of the time, in the last 2 weeks, when i right click on anything on my desktop explorer crashes and asks if I want to reboot, I click okay, it reboots and sometimes works and sometimes not without doing it a couple of times. the computer and vista works fine other than this. Anyone know what it could be?

I would like to have windows 7 but am apprehensive with an upgrade to windows 7 with a new set of problems, nor do I want to reload all my programs.

thanks for any help

I will be looking forward to the replies. I had the same problem...although it did not ask me if I wanted to reboot.

I upgraded to Win7 a few days ago and have not been experiencing the problem since. Crossed fingers.

I skipped over Vista and went from XP to Win 7(fresh install) So far (about 3 months) I have no problems.

Have you tried this from the Vista forum

Recommend Win 7, if you dont want to pay for it now then the free Beta version is available on torrent downloads valid until about March next year.

I will pay for the real win 7 version upgrade if I have no problems with my programs or set up now. was the upgrade seamless or did you encounter problems?

thanks

Almost seamless. When I did the compatibility check, there was one program related to my printer it suggested I delete. I couldn't find it, so I skipped it (did delete a couple of other things, as instructed). When I began to actually load Win7 it stopped until I went back and deleted the program. The difference was that the compatibility program called the program an incorrect name (go figure), which was why I couldn't find it. During the download, it called it by its correct name. Other than that, it took longer than given estimates, but went fine.
