If it's anything like what most ISP supply in Bangkok, then your 8 Mbps is valid ONLY for web sites inside Thailand. If you do a speed check to a site outside Thailand you will see a speed drop of anywhere from 100 to 400 percent. I've had True internet in Kannayao area here and they advertised (and we paid for) 1 Mbps. For those dam_n foreign sites the speed dropped to about 200 Kbps or less. Now, near Minbury, I have TOT and pay for 3 Mbps. On a speed test inside Thailand it shows average of 2.8 Mbps which isn't bad. For a site outside of Thailand the speed shows an average of about 300 to 600K, which is terrible.

So take the 8 meg speed with a very large grain of salt.

Many things can conspire to rob you of connection speed, not least of which is the gov't throttling all those IP packets while they look for 'bad stuff'.

More important than raw speed, to my mind, is solid connections. My TOT connection drops about every 8 to 25 minutes. Seems random and is quite annoying. Well, it WOULD be annoying if I was bit torrenting, which of course we don't do here in LOS. My wife phoned TOT a while back and complained and it was fixed for about a week then slowly has reverted to the random disconnects. Is any one else experiencing this with TOT service?

Side note to the guy that is at this second madly typing a 'correction' of my usage of Kbps, Mbps, Etcbps... No, I don't understand the actual usage of Kbps and kBps or BKps or KBPS or....
