Working on something with an Engineer, and jsut shadowing him ( more or less a 2nd opinion) to make sure not mistakes ( found one in the past ).

For a buckling formula, looking to calculate the "I" of the attached support beam

2 configurations:-

1. Three 60mmx3 mm pipes in a triangle @ on a radius of 0.5m

2. One pipe 60mmx3 mm in middle with 1 inch solid steel "cables". (assuming only on steel cable would work in a buckling situation).

Can anyone point to the formula's to calc this ? Was about 20+ years back, so am very rusty now.

Wont be used in real calcs, but would like to get a feeling for it.
