Mexican Food Fans

Featured Replies

The impetus was that before (if I recall) there was only Thai and western, so topics about things like Korean, Chinese and Indian were ending up either/or, and neither made sense. I stand by my original suggestion and think it was the right change to make. With an international forum, obviously Korean, Chinese, and Indian belong there and not western, and not Thai.

Western is international too if you're in Thailand. Obviously Western did not fit Chinese, Japanese, Indian, etc, but you can rename the forum rather than split. Making more food forums just makes it harder for people to read everything, and the international one doesn't seem to get much traffic. What goes where? Greek is western, but Lebanese is international? Russian? Brazilian? Mozambique Peri Peri? Vindaloo? Apparently no one knows where Mexican goes. :)

Local food, Thai, and foreign food, everything else, makes more sense to me. Either way, no Mexican forum, a 4th just complicates thing.

Some countries are more obvious than others. So what?

Why was the Poll put in general topics and not in the Food forum?

I think the placement of the polls will have to do a lot with its out come.

I originally place this post in the General forum , As I was not aware what forum I was in.

Why not just label the forum "African food" thats is where we all came from?"

Why start your history of mankind with Asia?

Amerindian foods from the indigenous population food discovery, is the backbone of many European food, Tomato's, what would Italian food be without them, Potato the backbone of Irish ,US meat and potato cuisines. Chiles are used in most foods world wide.

Western Cuisines could not get by a day without,

Papaya

Squash

sweet potato

avocado

beans

tomato

Chile

corn

vanilla

chocolate

peanuts

What would the US holiday Thanksgiving be without the Turkey and the other indigenous foods mentioned.

WHAT IS CONSIDERED THE WEST?

Yes, The Western Hemisphere!

Western Thought is usually associated with the cultural traditions that traces its origin to Greek thought and Christian Religion, Which cornerstones are Deductive reasoning, Rule of law, Monotheism.

Also the original definition of the Western World originally meant Western Europe. But once Europeans colonized the world, any area that had a lot of European immigration eventually came to include the definition.

Basically it means any country and/or geographical region who's culture is "Western"(heavily influenced by Western Europe) . Is considered a Western Culture.

One should distinguish "Western Society" from the social-economic term "First World" in the example of South America is sometimes mentioned as a Western Society, But much of it is poor.

NOW HOW DOSE THE WESTERN WORLD INCLUDE .MEXICO?

Mexico has been a Democracy since 1917.

Mexico follows the rule of Law.

Mexico is a Christian Country (Monotheism).

Mexico is the Worlds 13th largest economy

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of _countries_by_GDP_(nominal)

Mexico is a member of the North American Union.

Mexico is in the Western Hemisphere.

Mexico has the worlds Riches man,Carlos Slim Helu'.

Most of the so called Mexican food originated in the US border states.

Most of the cuisine of Mexico is not Indigenous in origin, the food of the lower and middle class in Mexico includes Indigenous foods,

The vast Majority of the Mestizo population about 80%.

Cheers:

No argument. Mexican is a western country. Some analysts also categorize JAPAN a western country. Mexico and Japan, however, both do not have western cuisines.

You answered your own question! There is no general food forum to put it in. In international would be a bias for international, in western, would be a bias for western. The best choice to avoid bias was GENERAL.

you seem to be the only person, that is worried about this forum issue.

Why is it that only Mexican food is targeted to change to another forum, Your reasons have no relevance to whether what food is consider Western and what is considered not Western.

I believe it should be the function of Thai Forum administration, to make these type of decisions. In a non-discriminatory process!

Well, so far many people voted in the poll. Mexican food is very popular. I agree, the mods here have the final decision on the categories. We as members can voice our preferences and they can choose to listen to members, or not. So far, most member clearly are favoring the categorization of Mexican in INTERNATIONAL. I expected the results to be different, but they are not. I think you just don't like the results.

I voted for Western for the reasons stated above, but more importantly because that's where everyone has always posted them anyway. AFAIK no one has ever complained that they can't find threads on Mexican food.

Sometimes mods have moved Mexican items from international to western. So, you are only stating the current mod policy. Nothing more, nothing less.

I suggested that Mexican food have it's own sub forum because in my opinion most of the discussions that take place about it do not seem to be relevant to Thailand. This forum is Western food in Thailand, not about where Mexican food comes from, what is true Mexican or Tex-Mex or which is the best taco truck in LA. If the mods won't close down those threads why not have your own place to discuss and leave this forum for those of us who are interested in what is available in Thailand?

For people who don't want to read the Mexican threads, whether they occur in international, western, or probably more commonly the local city forums, well, why not just don't read them?!? Geez.

JT I don't think anyone has a beef about discussing all things Mexican food, rather the concurrent topics that inevitably end up as "that's not mexican, that's tex mex, that's not authentic, there are no good mex restaurants here.

This isn't unique to mexican by the way, dig up the old best pizza / burger threads for more evidence.

I for one would like to see sub-topics. Western / International Food - Mexican - fav restaurants, recipes etc.

I totally disagree. Such detail on a Thailand forum is absurd. That would make sense if this site was food.com or something. This is getting silly.

Your right JT, if we actually went into detail it would be harder for people like yourself to get off topic. I wanna know about where to eat mexican in Thailand - not debate the f-king origins of the food like a few on here persist on doing at every opportunity.

You are very cheeky, BKK. Maybe we should get a room and work this out mano-a-mano ...

Well said. Maybe we need a crackdown before TV becomes the hub of all Mexican food?
