10k (i assume you mean pounds) might not get you that far. 10k comes to about 720,000 baht. your accomodation at that rate comes to 220,000, leaves 500,000 for the 52 weeks, less than 10,000 per week. possible, but samui is expensive ad you need to allow for the visa runs, etc. i own a house on samui and I need around 90,000 per month for the bills, car, fuel, etc etc

90.000 bath a month ??? Looks like you are still in holiday mood when spending so much money . If you can stay away from the holiday feeling , i mean : bars and alcohol , then you easy can live with a lot less . Rent a small house/ bungalow for around 6000 to 10000 a month and do your cooking at home . Pick a few beercans in 7/11 or Tesco , whatever , and you'll probably would spend around 20.000 till 25.000 a month maximum ( including house ) . It's the nightlife which makes it expensive , stay away from there and you can life very cheap ( even cheaper than 20.000 ) . Depends on what you want i'd say .

If you can handle staying outside of the main road in Lamai there are plenty of part furnished (bed, table, chairs, sometimes with tv & samui cable)houses for rent - some for less that 4kbaht a month with hot water & fan (aircon will cost a lot in electric bills) but not riding a bike will restrict you somewhat with where you can stay. Book a bungalow & have a wander around for a couple of days, the signs for houses for rent are always in English & you can usually move in the same or next day.

The last time I was in Samui (3 weeks ago) there were lots of adverts for the 1 day visa runs to either burma or malaysia, leaving by coach at 4.30am & returning on the 5.30pm ferry, from the signs I saw they cost around 2k baht (which is not bad considering the usual trip to hat yai involves staying in a hotel for a night plus food, plus the boredom of being in hat yai for the whole night :o ) I'm sure once your there you will be able to find one of these bus runs to suit your needs but would personally budget around 2/2.5k baht per run.

depends on how new it is but approx 3-4k a month for a honda wave/dream or those new ones without gears are a bit more but not much.

Or if your staying for a few months go to Springer just off the main ring road turning into Chaweng (the first entrance to chanweng from Lamai). They sell second hand mopeds with all relevant paperwork & providing it isn't too messed up will buy it back at around the same price when you leave :o

one day visa trips cost 1250 baht to malaysian border, including ferry. to ranong should be the same price. very reliable and return on time by international tours in nathon. accompanied by farang owner who makes sure you get back on time and no hassles and everything goes smooth.
