I bought a car last year ( March) and have had numerous phone calls from many insurance companies to renew the free policy I got with car. They get nothing from me and then go to call my girlfriend who is not too hot on insurance details. They even call after 8PM (which is illegal after 6PM). The thing is they wanted a 3,000 baht downpayment and the policy is not due until March. I have since got cheaper quotes (25% cheaper, Thai Visa Insurance by the way)

Thing is, if Thai salesperson/ Thai buyer, are Thai buyers really that easy? My GF even organised the courier to pick up the 3,000 baht from my office. That got Sh**canned pretty quick.

Obviosly the dealer I bought the car from sent out all my details to insurance companies.

Has anyone had the same?

Unfortunately this happens far too often with the Tele Sales person not even knowing the benefits of the policy if you have the temerity to ask !

As always use the services of a Broker - Thai Visa preferable :)

The sales company is generating income by REPRESENTING an insurer for a sales commision. They have none whatsoever to do with functioning insurance. They just collect a fat commission for signing you to an overpriced agreement to the same coverage you started with.

Deal with the Insurer, or an Insurance Broker with a brick and mortar office where you can get a claim addressed in person.

Your Insurance Agent should be there for you via cell, come to your aid in a timely manner, and follow up on actions via eMail and postal mail, but, if your Agent should fail to be excellent in response to a call for assistance, an actual Office is a further assurance of accountability and assistance.

Many insurance agents are listed in english from the portal in ThaiPro.

Reputations matter quite alot. Stories abound of insurers who will do nothing until you hire an attorney to hold them to the terms of the coverage. Ask enough questions and you will discover who is and who is not accountable when needed.

The sales company you had a round with is pushy, predatory, and hopes you are too busy to pay due attention to what they are offering. You have shopped elsewhere, so you are obviously not the fool they are looking for. Be blunt. Scotch all conversation with them. They will move on.

Happy New Year

Totally agree with you SPQR

But what I was asking is, do Thai's take this sort of approach as normal? The rammifications of an insurance claim is another matter. We all know this is debatable.

As always use the services of a Broker -- While for most persons, using the services of a Broker is advisable and is available at no additional cost, many insurance providers in Thailand and International have excellent online Customer Service systems and can deal with you directly. Some of these CSR goups are small enough so that they will remember you as an individual... and while there are obvious advantages in having a Broker's help, there are other advantages that only come when YOU are dealing directly with the Insurance Provider.

No, thais dont take this sort of approach as normal, and wouldnt even dream about making a 3k deposit for an insurance to be payed in 2 months. The 3k is probably the commision.

My gf recieved similar calls, and asked them to please not call again cause she would buy insurance directly from an insurancecompany when needed. BTW this can be done a month before expired insurance, valid when old insurance ends.
